Read The Courtesan by Isabella Carter Online

The city has been on eggshells since the arrival of the vampire delegation to the capital and Prince Alden has been ordered to his best behavior. Which means it's definitely a bad time to find himself drawn to the handsome man he met late one night that asked him to dance. Especially when the man is already claimed......

3.5 starsThe kind of short story that is predictable but still can make me go "awwww" in the end due to the adorable main characters. I think Alden and Bran have chemistry -- and their courting is the right amount of sweetness.

Most of LT3's AU/Fantasy stories have a certain similarfeelto them. I like it, it's sweet and non-explicit with good triumphing over evil and often aCinderfella twist and some magic. This was no exception, plus it has a rentboy, so of course I read it. It was a quick sweet read with a hopeful ending.

Alden, a prince, meets a mysterious man at a ball who turns out to be a courtesan. This was an interesting story with a lot of potential. I liked the world that the author created and the characters were intriguing, I just feel that she was just limited by the word count. I would have happily read a novella or a novel with these characters.

This review can be found at Brief Encounters Reviews.I’ve kind of developed a taste for what I call the Disney fantasy stories. Not because they are sweet and for children, but that whole Cinderella at the ball feel, with castles and nobles and fancy clothes and formal manners. In this case, it’s set in a world where men with men seems fairly straightforward and “normal” if you will. Alden is the youngest son, so doesn’t have much responsibility thrust on him. However, during their big celebration, a delegation from a neighboring kingdom shows up, and they are vampires, which causes great interest and concern amongst Alden and his family.During the ball, Alden takes refuge on the patio and runs into Bran. After some flirting and dancing, Alden’s interested, however it seems Bran is a courtesan and the property of one of the diplomats. After a little pep talk from his cousin, Alden’s not about to let that stop him, and starts pursuing Bran. A kink is put in his plans, when Bran’s master tells the king they would like to arrange a marriage with Alden and the man in question, to more closely ally their kingdoms. Only someone’s not interested in an alliance, and Alden is poisoned and nearly killed.I liked that Alden went for what he wanted. This is completely non-explicit, but he didn’t care that Bran was a courtesan and a vampire, he was determined to get to know him. It’s all told from Alden’s POV, so you only get to know Bran through Alden, and he admits the man doesn’t reveal much. I also like that while Alden didn’t want to marry the other man, he didn’t throw a tantrum. If his father had said he must, he would, because that was his role and for his country’s benefit, he’d do what he was told. It showed him as perhaps more mature than he comes across at first. There’s quite a lot of information, and of course political intrigue, but I didn’t find it overwhelmed Alden’s pursuit of Bran and his general good nature. There is some magic as well thrown in with the vampires, but it all seemed to work well together. I’m a bit curious about his cousin Drew and his brother Mason. I got the feeling something is going on under the surface there. Hmm. If you like those kind of fantasy stories, with a touch of vampires and politics, it was a very enjoyable read.

4.25 Kisses! is the first story I’ve read by Isabella Carter and it won’t be my last! I really enjoyed the creative world building as well as the politics in this short story. Between the fast paced storyline and the intriguingly, sexy characters I read this novella in one setting and wished for more once it had come to an end!Prince Alden is sick and tired of the same old thing. Now his country has thrown a ball to welcome the vampire delegation and his dance card has been so full, his feet are starting to hurt. Needing a break, he escapes outside where he meets a very mysterious and handsome vampire named Bran. Despite his inner reservations about getting chummy with the vampire, he can’t help but become captivated by the sexy Bran and Prince Alden soon finds himself dancing with Bran and quickly losing his heart to him as well. But Bran isn’t a free man. He’s a courtesan to a powerful vampire and Alden instinctively knows there’s no way he can have Bran to himself. But when Alden’s life becomes in grave danger, he finds out there is more to Bran that meets the eye.I loved this book! I thought Bran and Alden had a very intense attraction to each other that really steamed up my computer screen. I liked their banter and they obviously liked one another, so I couldn’t help but hope they’d find a way to be together. Believe it or not, there is also an interesting suspense/mystery to the storyline itself that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved how everything worked out in the end and was left wishing the book had been longer so I could read how the two men were able to make their relationship work in the end.Beautifully written with sexy heroes and a fast-paced story that kept this reader captivated with it from start to finish, The Courtesan has everything I love when it comes to reading a short story. If you are looking for a sexy, fun read this is definitely a book you should consider. Recommended!

This was a surprisingly enjoyable story that had some interesting twists and turns. At a celebratory ball, Prince Alden meets Bran Devlin, a member the visiting vampire delegation. He has escaped the dancing after one too many dances with anxious potential suitors and is taking a breather outside the ballroom. But when the handsome Bran sweeps him into a graceful waltz, he seems to perk up. They share a dance and a kiss and then Bran returns to his compatriots. Alden then learns that Bran is a courtesan.Alden’s family is not sure what the true intention of the vampire delegation is and they warn him to be careful. But Alden is already somewhat smitten with Bran and decides he needs to know if he is interested in Alden the person or the prince. He arranges to spend some time with Bran the next evening. They share an intimate moment and then Bran leaves. The following day, the delegation requests a meeting with the king and the princes. The true nature of the visit is revealed and Lord Langdon, the head of the delegation ask for Alden’s hand in marriage. While Alden or course objects to this, his family appears to be considering it quite seriously. Alden wants to talk to Bran and he is able to find him the following night and takes him on a surprise outing. They try to spend as much time as they can together until the end of the celebration and a decision about Alden’s future. But at the final feast, there is a nasty surprise that jeopardizes both Alden and Bran and any future they might have together. This is the first story I’ve read by this author. I liked the style and the characters and world she created. Bran and Alden are both convincing characters and I enjoyed the secondary characters as well. If you are looking for a short and a bit mysterious but sensuous read, I think you’ll like this little gem.

This is just my cup of tea: a lovely, romantic story with a bit of angst and two characters who just had to get together.I'd not read any of Isabella Carter's books before, and got this as part of the Halloween set from Less Than Three Press. I was glad I did, as this one hit the spot nicely for me. I'd definitely like to see more from the author.

An adorable fairy tale-esque story, in keeping with LT3 tradition. The buildup to the climax could have been better, would have made the Big Reveal a bit more relevant, dramatic, exciting, etc.The world building was a bit confusing towards the beginning, although most things were cleared up by the end of the story. Likewise for character creation/characterization.

I loved the chemistry between Alden and Bran, there was just the right amount of flirting and longing between the tow MC's. The storyline was predictable but still a very fun read. I just wished it was longer.
