Ghost of Dragoncroft Reviews
I hate that Goodreads doesn't have a DNF status. I have to count DNF as read to review and rate. Sadly, life is too short to read what you don't enjoy. I had high hopes for this but oh my god the headhopping! Stop doing that! A few paragraphs in each character's head is not good writing. Very bad handling of the romance and just nothing happening. It's a novella, I'm 30% of the way through and no plot yet? Sorry. On to better things.
This little novella was quite a treat. I read it in one sitting as it kept my interest peaked. I loved the descriptions of the castle and felt I got to know the main character, Vanessa, very well and could empathize with her. This book is reminiscent of the vintage gothic and I sure hope to see more writing by Jonni Rich!
A book that never takes off.I personally would not recommend reading this book to anyone except maybe someone I didn't like very much. The story line starts out good and then just crashes and burns. My suggestion? Read something else.
This review is from: Ghost of Dragoncroft (Kindle Edition)Sparsely written Gothic Novella. Not much meat to this story. All the usual tropes: brooding hero, wife deceased, young daughter, heroine is a governess, mysterious West wing with eerie sounds and visions..
Simple and sweet ghost storyThe plot is straightforward gothic romance with a mysterious twist. Is the white figure a ghost, or just her imagination. And what is the truth about the late wife?
The Ghost of Dragoncroft is a gothic romance with a touch of mystery that is satisfying and a quick read. The mood of the period is done quite well without having so much description that the pacing is sacrificed.I liked it.
This had so much potential and then it got all "romance-y" BLARG. And it ended so abruptly. And there was no ghost. Damn it! Don't put Ghost in your title is there is no GHOST. That's just mean.
There's not much meat to this story, and the ending was too forced and quick. The kindle version is filled with spelling errors.
I love stories with castles.
