Lover Unleashed is the tenth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood universe and it’s about Payne and Manny finding love. To me, it’s also… a huge disappointment. Why? Because I feel that the loyal fans got screwed over. The way Ward just blatantly rewrites history, disregards her own world's rules and has characters act completely out of character... It's insulting really! I’ve been looking forward to this book like crazy. Eventhough I wasn’t interested in Payne and Manny’s story at all. In fact: I was fully expecting to hastily flip through the Payne/Manny bits, just to get to the good stuff: V’s downward spiral and the Qhuinn/Blay drama. At the end though: the love story between Payne and Manny was the best part of the book. And that’s saying something. If this book emphasizes one thing, it is that Ward needs a new editor. Sure, the current one cries and raves about everything Ward says. But I thought an editor’s job was to actually, oh I don’t know… edit? Correct mistakes? Make sure the story flows well? Secure continuity in characters, actions and events? Check the time line? Nope, no such thing. But hey: I bet she’s great at nodding her head. Basically, Lover Unleashed is two big story lines and three mini story lines put together. The two bigger story lines revolve around Payne & Manny and V, Jane & Butch. The three mini story lines are about Qhuinn & Blay, the Band of Bastards and about the next Fallen Angels book Jose de la Cruz and his new partner. (Minor spoilers from here on:) The good: - Manny: before this story I was simply not invested enough to care about what happened to the guy. Over the course of this book, however, I grew to really like him. Ward described him as ‘a metrosexual motherfucker’ but he’s really a regular alpha guy who’s not afraid to let his lady have the limelight. - The Band of Bastards: I loved the itty grittiness of them. Xcor is really intriguing, Zypher needs a long way to be redeemed (somehow that’s sexy) and Throe, what can I say: I wish my friend Tara hadn’t called dibbs cause I wants him! - Butch: I just love Butch. The bad: - Vishous' downward spiral: spelled C-O-N-T-R-I-V-E-D to me. The angst was completely forged and supported only by out of character actions by both Jane and Vishous. Plus: the whole thing was based on a faulty premise: the mating ceremony between V an Jane supposedly not having taken place. Say what?!? - The Butch story line: yes I love Butch, but I can’t get over the fact what a missed chance this was for Ward to write more about our favorite ex-human with his chipped tooth (which mysteriously turned into a capped tooth in this book…). In a story which features Vishous, Manny and Jose de la Cruz, you’d expect more about him! And I’m not even going to mention the missed opportunity concerning the V/Butch quality time. Such a waste… - Payne:‘the female warrior’. Right… Payne is what Xhex haters would want her to be: a tough chick disguised in a Chosen package. We are told she’s tough and she holds her ground. We just don’t really see it. Also: this Payne didn’t resemble the girl we met in Lover Avenged. She felt more like Marissa or Cormia. Only with dark hair. -Layla: like Payne, there was a change of character in Layla. Ward decided to give her a backbone this book. It just doesn’t match her behavior from last books... or this book, really. I feel like it’s an attempt from Ward to make us like Layla. Mission failed on my account. - Jane: okay now, I’ll admit; I’m not the biggest Jane fan. I have problems with her status as Super Shellan and I get annoyed by the way Ward just needs to drive the point home (again and again) about how smart Jane is. And well.. in this book we were told (again and again) how smart the super doc was. Too bad she didn’t actually show it in her behavior. - the blending POVs: maybe it’s me, maybe it’s due to all the Wardisms, but all the inner POVs are starting to sound alike. Open up a random chapter and it’s almost impossible to differentiate who’s talking or thinking anymore. - the ending: if felt rushed and unfinished. Twenty pages is too short to wrap up five story lines! The ugly: - No John Matthew. At all. I missed him. - The Jose de la Cruz and Thomas DelVecchio story line: I found it really interesting… right up to the point where I realized it didn’t serve any purpose in expanding Butch’s or the Bastards’ story line. It’s just one big infomercial for the next Fallen Angels book. - The castration of Xcor: here we have an intriguing, morally ambiguous hero with lots of potential. And Ward turns him into a sap near the end of the book. Why?!?- The revelation of what Qhuinn saw on the door of the Fade: if this is going where I think it’s going, then I’m seriously considering a series boycott. One word: ridiculous. The hysterical: - The Wardisms: is it me or are they getting worse each book? The number one Wardism for this book has to be ‘going/getting vertical’. Another favorite word: ‘kibitzer’. There was also lots of extrapolation going on. - Ehlena: she was the Super Extra. I think she was mentioned over forty times in the book. She didn’t utter one word though. - Manny’s perpetual hard ons: We get it: he’s excited. But it got a bit silly towards the ending…Now, I’ll be the last to say that the BDB series has always been perfect. It’s a bit over the top, sometimes silly, riddled with continuity mistakes. But until now Ward managed to compensate all this with great story telling, excitement and entertainment. This time around I just didn't feel it. The main story line was okay, but the secondary story lines were either contrived (V/Jane/Butch), lacking of any substance (Qhuinn/Blay) or completely unnecessary (De La Cruz/Veck).It’s still good for the genre, but it’s certainly my least favorite in the BDB series. A mere 2,5 stars.

4 Was this Payne's book or V's? Stars SpoilersFirst Read 2014Reread 4/7/2017It finally happened, he thought as he burrowed under his shirt and took hold of his heavy cross. All his life he'd wondered why he'd never fallen in love, and now he knew: He'd been waiting for this moment, this woman, this time. The female is mine, he thought.-MannyLover Unleashed the 9th book in the BDB series was a good read but I was a little confused as to whose book it was. I mean was this Payne and Manny's book or V and Jane's. Because even though this is suppose to be about Payne and Manny, V and Jane's drama took up most of this book. I will be honest I liked V a lot in his book but in this book I was so upset with him. I am trying to understand were V is coming from with all his past abuses. I feel like he was unloyal to his Shellan Jane every time he thought about Butch in a sexual way or like in this book he was thinking back to his past Dom sex life and it seemed like he missed it. Enough that Jane and Butch wondered if he would cheat on her. I mean WTF? A bonded male should never even think about being with another not even for a minute. It felt like a betrayal of their love. So V really let me down in this book. Though he pulled his shit together in the end I didn't like seeing him feel that way in the first place. It made me lose a little respect for him that he would even question his love for Jane. And man I felt so damn bad for Jane in this book. And the last thing he saw before he checked out of the Conscious Inn & Suites was Jane's head whipping around in a panic. In her eyes was stark terror, as if the single worst thing that she could imagine was him in agony....And that was when he knew that he still loved her.-V Anyone but her. She heard him say that over and over again, saw his ashen face and his icy eyes and the way he had closed her out. Funny ... the eternity she'd been granted had always seemed like the grandest blessing. Until she pictured going aeons without the man she loved. Now it was a curse. Where would she go? She couldn't very well continue at the compound. Not if they were estranged like this.-JaneWhy did he even have to question if he still loved her. He is bonded that isn't suppose to go away. I just really didn't like it. I also didn't like the fact that Payne and Manny took a backseat in this book. Their story was out shined by V's shit. I really liked both Payne and Manny. I thought they were cute and sexy together and I would have loved more time with them. Seeing as this was suppose to be their book and all. I enjoyed all the parts about Manny and Payne. I loved that Payne was her own person. She was strong, a fighter, and she was up front and honest. Manny was great too. He may have been human but he was strong in his own right. He stood up to the brothers especially V, and he was totally comfortable in his own skin. He didn't want to become a vampire like Butch. He was just fine with being himself. "I am the daughter of a god, Manuel. A deity. That glow you call forth from me? It is her very essence as an entity. That is what she is. As for my father? He was nothing but a sadistic bastard who imparted unto me the urge to kill - that was his 'gift.' And do you want to know what I did with it? Do you?" She was aware that her voice was rising but was singularly disinclined to quiet herself. "I killed him, Manuel. And for that crime against mine bloodline, for that offense against the standards of behavior for females, I was imprisoned and held for centuries. So you are too right. Go - and do it now. It is for the best. But do not think that I fit in here any better than you do."-PayneYou are beautiful and sexy and I don't know what the hell your mother or anyone else is doing comparing you to anything or anybody. Nothing comes close to you ... on any level."-MannyOverall I enjoyed this book but would have liked more Manny/ Payne and less Jane/V. I liked finding out Butch and Manny are half brothers. I really liked the introduction of Xcor and the Band of Bastards. Am I the only one that thought it was hot as shit when Throe and Xcor tag-teamed the prostitute? OMG who would have thought prostitute sex would be so damn hot! I am looking forward to the Xcor plot. I just loved Blay in this book. I am so glad he was doing what was best for him. I liked that he moved on instead of sitting around like a kicked puppy hurting every time he seen Qhuinn with someone else. I have to say I don't feel one bit sorry for Qhuinn. I know he is a lot of fans favorite but not mine. The fact of the matter is he sat there ripping out Blay's heart having sex with everyone he could right in front of Blay, knowing Blay was in love with him. Now he is all "poor me" I love Blay and he is with another. Well Qhuinn could have Blay if he just grew some damn balls. No one is stopping Blay and Qhuinn's love but Qhuinn. Maybe it's because Blay is such a sweetheart and a male of worth and I feel protective of him but I have a hard time forgiving Qhuinn for the pain he caused Blay. Just because he was too much of a coward to go for what he wanted. Qhuinn's loss just sayin'! Lover Unleashed was a good read but not one of my favorites in the series. "What you doing out here, girlie?" the bigger of the two asked. "All alone." I'm about to cut your throat open with what I have behind my back. After which I shall break both of your legs, not because I have to, but because I shall enjoy the sound. And then I will locate something steel with which to pierce your empty chest cavity and send you back to your maker. Or mayhap I'll leave you to writhe on the ground.-Lesser and Payne

This book is just all kinds of amazing!**Fear thee not, spoilers are hidden**There are so many things to love about Lover Unleashed, the 9th installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I’ve come to expect truly great stories with complex characters and lots of emotion, and this book didn’t disappoint. In fact, it ranks right up there with my favorite book in the series, Lover Awakened. What makes this so amazing, you ask? Well, important things were resolved, new things were revealed and with the laying of the foundation for future books complete, I can tell it’s going to be an exciting ride.I loved the introduction of the new warriors from England, AKA the Band of Bastards, and how they each have not just different personalities, but totally different intensities. I can see such potential for them all, but I’m wondering about the three cousins. We were given the names Xcor, Throe and Zypher, but others were only referred to as the three cousins. Those are the things that make me go, hmmmmm….. And the WARDen has such a way with words. There were many times I was laughing out loud and smiling. These are a couple of those times - Undeterred by his lack of enthusiasm, she leaned forward, flashing him a set of breasts that didn't so much as defy gravity as flip it off, insult its mother, and piss on it's shoes. And - Manuel bared his teeth as if he had fangs... and did not that just turn her on.For those who have read the book, here are some of my more specific thoughts and comments - Manny and Payne spoiler - (view spoiler)[ I’m so glad that Manny isn’t changing! It might come to pass in another book, but it wasn’t necessary in this one and so I’m glad the issue wasn’t forced. I’m also thrilled that he’ll be able to see his mother and move between worlds, rather than having to decide on one or the other. I think it kind of opens the door for more interaction with humans, and gives the Brotherhood another connection with the outside world. Now, I’ve seen some criticism over Payne’s confrontation with Xcor. Some people think it was anticlimactic, but I’d have to disagree. I think that as readers of this series, we’ve become very used to the idea of a Brother coming to the rescue and saving the day and so when that doesn’t happen, or that kind of intense “rescue” doesn’t go down, it might seem rather “meh” to some readers. Personally, I thought that was handled very well! Payne showed what kind power she wields and got Xcor’s attention. That one scene gave him a lot of information in a short amount of time. I think it was done very well, indeed. (hide spoiler)]Butch and V spoiler - (view spoiler)[ I have to say that my respect and admiration for Butch went through the roof in this story. What a tough spot he was in when V needed his help. He knew exactly what V needed to go through, and knew how to do it. That’s more than just friendship there. I truly believe it was their destiny to know one another. Wow… that was an amazing scene and I’ll be honest, I’m glad there was nothing sexual about it, because had it become such, I just wouldn’t have been able to continue to respect or believe in Butch and Marissa’s and Vishous and Jane’s happily ever afters.(hide spoiler)]Qhuinn and Blay spoiler -(view spoiler)[ While we didn’t get a lot of page time here, and virtually zero interaction between the two of them, I’m thrilled at what we did get. Qhuinn finally, finally gets it and is moving in the right direction. I know a lot of people want them doing the horizontal mambo right now, but Qhuinn has a lot to work out before he can tackle the kind of relationship Blay deserves. Poor guy – the number his family and society have done on his head… yeah, he’s got some things to work out, for sure. And wow! What about that vision he had of the little girl with the different colored eyes… I can’t wait for all that to play out!I'm sorry that Qhuinn and Blay are going through so much pain right now, but I'm glad Blay has Saxton to lean on. I'm glad he's not pining away for Qhuinn, who has made it clear that a relationship for them is a no-go.(hide spoiler)]Layla spoiler -(view spoiler)[ Wow… I’m so glad that she’s getting it together. She has such great potential as a female of worth and I loved her whole attitude in this book when talking to Qhuinn about her own feelings and how she felt about him being in love with Blay. In the past she’s come across as so needy and wimpy, and while I always knew the WARDen would show us a different side to her, I’m glad she began that process in this book! Go Layla!!(hide spoiler)]Testing the sexual waters spoiler (view spoiler)[ Well, I have to say that the threesome we knew to expect, while not with WHO we expected, was none-the-less quite a change from the level of sexual intensity and explicitness than we've gotten in previous books. And doesn't that just make me smile! I loved that part of the story and felt it was really well done. I can't help but think the WARDen is testing the sexuality waters for future books, and especially for Qhuinn and Blay. Two thumbs up!(hide spoiler)]Overall, I loved this book. The WARDen truly outdid herself this time and addressed so many of the things we’ve all been speculating about for years. I love the answers we got, the new question to ponder and the addition of the Band of Bastards to obsess over! Fantastic job, WARDen!!!!!! Edited to add: And we've just learned that Tohr's book is next and is titled Lover Reborn!

"You're the one who's Payne's."No hesitation on that. No hesitation on his reply either: "Yeah. I am."This was such a romantic book, I must say I loved Manny and Payne's story <3 What made it even better was a side-story concerning Vishous! Fantastic :))The new bad guys are irritating as hell and I had the same urge to skip them as I do the lessers :(But overall, I loved this one <3 The storyThis one picks up right after Lover Mine.Payne is at the Brotherhood compound, injured and frustrated, while everyone is in shock by learning she is Vishous' sister.Jane takes off to find someone who can heal Payne, her former boss and friend, Manuel Manello.Manuel is shocked and angry to find out Jane is alive, but he agrees to go with her and try to help the injured person. The moment he sees Payne, he knows she's special, and that she's meant to be his.He operates on her, and they delete his memory after it's done, which causes Manny massive headaches and the poor guy ends up thinking he's losing his mind.Payne's state isn't improving, and she doesn't want to be immobile for the rest of her life, so Vishous decides to do something to give her the will to live.He brings her back her healer.Lifting her palm, she peeled back and slapped him across the face. "And do NOT insult my blood."*This is Payne and Xcor quote. I just had to. It made my day :D*The story - I just LOVED the romance in this one!!! I know it isn't a favorite for most people, but for me it totally worked :) And what's weird, I am really not a fan of insta-love, and this one is as insta as it gets, but yeah, it didn't bother me at all :)The side-story about Vishous was heartbreaking, but I loved it as well. The charactersVishous - He is dealing with another shock, learning he had a sister imprisoned by his mother, and it isn't doing him any good on the mental level. Payne asks him to kill her if the treatment doesn't work, and it eating him alive. He goes back to his masochistic ways, and Jane doesn't know how to help him. After Payne tries to (view spoiler)[kill herself (hide spoiler)], he just snaps.Vishous/Jane - All is not well with these too and they go through some rocky times here. I felt terrible for both of them, but it was still good to see their relationship progress even further :)Vishous/Butch - Highlight of the book <3 Loved the scenes between them, and it just shows how special their friendship (love) is. The Band of Bastards - New bad guys. Incredibly irritating. i think I liked Lash better then these guys, and that's saying something cause I hated Lash's guts completely!Anyway. Maybe it's just me. But I had an incredible urge to just skip everything involving them and pretend they don't exist :)Xcor - *pukes*I don't want to read about him. I don't want to know about anything concerning him. I don't want him to have his own book because that would mean I'd have to read about him a hell of a lot more than now. I don't think my brain would be able to take it.But I will have to. And I will hate Ward for forcing me to read about a guy I don't want to read.Payne looked back through the glass at the human on the bed. "Yes. I am in love with him. And if you try to dissuade me by the fact that I have not lived yet enough to judge, I say unto you... fuck off. I need not know the world to realize my heart's desire."Payne is the daughter of the Scribe Virgin, twin sister of Vishous. She has been imprisoned by her mother for 300 years, because Payne had killed the Bloodletter for what he had done to Vishous.Frustrated because of her imprisonment, she took it all on Wrath in the middle of their sparring sessions, which resulted in Payne getting hurt and taken out of the Sanctuary to the Brotherhood mansion, to be treated. She is captivated by Manny, and doesn't want to part from him, even though she knows she must erase his memories after he's done treating her. When the operation succeeds, but she remains immobile, Payne loses the will to live.Seeing Manny is the thing that brings her back, and he shows her there's more to life even when one can't walk."I want you..." Reaching for the bottom of his loose shirt, he pulled it up slowly, exposing the carved muscles of his stomach. "…to want me."Oh, sweet destiny, she did.And he meant what he said. The more she looked, the more those abdominals of his curled and released as if he were breathing hard as well. She is a fighter, strong and capable, and being without her legs is killing her. Manny is the only thing that makes her want to live, and they realise her feelings for him are the thing that could make her better :)Well, I really liked her as a character :) She's pretty much clueless as to relationships, but she isn't stupid. She realises she feels something for Manny, and the more they spend time together, the more she falls in love with him.The scene with the horse was very sweet <3 And when she kicks ass in front of his car LMAO :D awesome scene :)But my favorite didn't include Manny with her, it was Payne and Xcor! How she behaved with him! *bows*The slap! I loved her at that moment, I really did. I wanted to slap him too. And maybe kick him in the balls or something. Oh well :)"This meant he was a movie star, a drill sergeant, and the president of the United States all rolled up into a sixfoot-tall, stacked son of a bitch. He had a terrible temper, a stunning intellect, and a fuse that was about a millimeter long.On a good day."Manny is overbearing, used to giving orders and having a short leash on his temper. He had feelings for his friend and colleague, Jane, and after she dies, he was completely crushed. Now he sees her again, and is beyond angry at her for lying to him, but still accepts to treat the patient that's in dire need of his help. When he sees Payne, he knows she is HIS, even though it doesn't make sense to him at all. He is very territorial, and has the urge to do the best he can to help her. After the surgery, his memory is deleted and he thinks he's going crazy, until Vishous approaches him and asks for his help again.Payne doesn't want to live that way, and Manny shows her it isn't that bad, and their mutual attraction is the thing that will get them together, and make Payne better :)"How old are you?" he asked abruptly. He might be a letch, but he didn't do underage anything. She was sure as hell built like an adult, but who knew what their maturity rate was—"I am three hundred and five years of age."Blink. Blink. Annnnnnd one more for good measure. Sure as shit that had to be of age, he thought. He's very funny, I loved his thoughts and POV :))))Even though he's a mere human, he isn't intimidated by V who absolutely hates his guts, and threatens to kill him :DDDDDHe wants Payne, but knows he can't have her, even after he gets his memories back.He does want to help her heal, so he decides to stay for however long it takes for her to get better :)All the scenes between Vishous and Manny were hilarious :D loved them both and how neither of them backed down :DWhen he took her exploring around town, that was sweet, and the scene with his horse too...The first goodbye in the hospital... Awesome scene!!! I felt so bad for him!And the scene in his bedroom when she came with good news :((((Heartbreaking! The end was wonderful and I seriously can't wait to see more of Manny and Payne in the next books. Love them both!!!!!"All his life he'd wondered why he'd never fallen in love, and now he knew: He'd been waiting for this moment, this woman, this time. The female is mine, he thought. And even though that made no sense at all, the conviction was so strong, he couldn't question it."My favorite quotes from other characters:"She's your sister?""Don't forget it."Manny smiled by baring all his teeth. "Then there's something you need to know.""What."Manny rose up on his toes and met the fucker eye-to-eye. "If you think you want to kill me now, this ain't nothin' compared to how you're going to feel when I see her again.""I would do anything for you. Anything."With that, he pushed his way out... and as the door eased shut, she realized that I love you could indeed be said without actually uttering the phrase.Actions did mean more than words.V stepped in close, bringing their faces to within an inch of each other. "You don't have the stomach for it. Trust me."Those deep hazel eyes held his and didn't blink. "You'd be amazed what I would do to keep you alive."Abruptly, V's mouth opened, his breath growing tight. And as the two of them stood chest-tochest, he knew every inch of his body, felt all of it at once."What are you saying, cop."-----------------------------------------------There should be something said between them, V thought. There was just so be said."I want it from you," V bit out. "I need it."Butch nodded. "I know."Vishous rolled them over, keeping them joined, and his eyes roamed her face for a long moment. "I have no words. Sixteen languages, but no words."There was both love and despair in his voice. He was truly handicapped when it came to emotions, and falling in love hadn't changed that... at least, not when things were as stressful as they were right now. But that was okay—after this time together it was okay.---------------------------------------"Yes?" he drawled. When she seemed speechless, he sucked on her lip and growled, "If you recall, we were discussing the bathroom? I was thinking maybe I could reacquaint the pair of you. Not sure if you're aware of it, but that sink counter has been crying out for you.""And you do some of your best work at sinks."V dragged one fang up her throat. "True that.""Jesus Christ... to be three hundred years old and find out you had a sibling.Nice move, moms. Real fucking nice.To think he'd assumed he'd worked through all of his issues with his parents. Then again, only one of them was dead. If the Scribe Virgin would just go the way of the Bloodletter and kick it, maybe he'd manage to get on an even keel.""Christ, he so didn't need a mirror to see himself for the coward and the fraud he was... but there was nothing he could do about it. He was locked in a cage with no key that he could find, years of his family's derision boxing him in and cramping him: The truth behind his wild side was that he was a straight-up pussy. Reading about the Black Dagger Brotherhood is like catching up with old friends. I can’t express how much I love this entire series! It’s #1 in my eyes and will forever stay that way! Lover Unleashed is Payne and Manny’s book and although I would have liked to see more romance between the two, I found that I really enjoyed both of them! Manny wasn’t exactly my favourite character inLover Unbound only because he was competition for V, but I found myself falling for the hot doctor. He had big shoes to fill if he wanted to roll with the Brothers and I thought he handled himself well. I loved his toughness and arrogant demeanour in the OR room and his gentleness with Payne. He’s also got a bit of a smart mouth, and you know I just can’t resist that! I’ll be your bambina any day, babe!Payne was awesome. I love the way she talks! There’s something about her that makes her seem innocent and yet not, if that makes any sense at all. And even injured and unmoving, she’s still a potent force in this book. My heart broke for her when she yelled at V for snatching away her one chance at escape. Going from her mother’s imprisonment to being a prisoner in her own body, I can understand her wish for a way out. But it still broke my heart to see it.Then there’s V who seriously goes batshit crazy in this one. After hearing he had a twin sister after all these years, he’s seriously pissed off with Mommy Dearest right now and I don’t blame him. He hasn’t ever had a stable relationship with her so when this bomb dropped, I could understand why he had a WTF reaction. What I love about this series is the fact that J.R. doesn’t sugar coat her relationships. There are ups and downs within each of the Brother’s relationships, just like any other relationships. I feel that the troubles V and Jane face strengthen their bond more than if they were just happy-happy-merry-merry all the time. In fact, having not been completely taken away by the romance inLover Unbound, I felt that this book really solidified the fact that V and Jane were meant to be together. I didn’t feel it back in V’s book, but after nearly breaking everything off in this one and making amends, it works in bringing back the romance. I liked that J.R. explored the lows in their relationship but I also thought that V’s drama stole some of the spotlight from Payne and Manny. Sometimes the balance between Manny/Payne and V/Jane were conflicting and I would have liked to see more of a focus on Manuelo and my girl, Payne. After all, it is their book! Jane was my least favourite shellan but reading about her conflicted feelings, I grew into her more. I always saw her as this unemotional, callous one, but seeing her panic and fear at watching V stumble in injured made me realize how much she cared. And it was enough for me. Ward covers a lot of bases in this one. Xcor (is it pronounced Cor?) and his band of bastards are introduced and I was VERY excited to read about new characters. I can see a whole new world that she can explore with these men and I really enjoyed the prologue. It was badass! And that scene with Xcor, Throe and that chick? Wow.Then there’s Qhuinn who is still suffering from a shattered heart. With John dealing with mated life and Blay off with Sax, Qhuinn is having to deal with things on his own when he should be with his boys. I felt so bad for him. WHEN IS HIS BOOK COMING OUT!? This guy deserves a HEA the most!!I loved this book and even though it wasn’t my favourite of the series, I can still say that I loved to read about Manny and Payne! The shit with V and Jane helped fixed the mediocre romance in Lover Unbound and QHUINN AND BLAY NEED THEIR DAMN BOOK ALREADY!! What’s a chick gotta do to get her M/M lovin? Here’s my Payne[image error]And this is my Manny

“With that, he pushed his way out...and as the door eased shut, she realized I love you could indeed be said without actually uttering the phrase. Actions did mean more than words.” To be honest, I really don't know why I gave this book 5 stars as for my distaste for the start. Payne is not a likable heroine for me, she's just too masculine and indepedent that I didn't know how Ward could find a man to match her with. And finally she fould Manny, yes it's him Dr. Manuel Manello, the Handsome one who had a crush on Dr.Jane since V's book. I wasn't so sure that the chemistry between them could convince me to believe that they are the hero and heroine of this book and destined to be together after all. “Butch tightened his grip on his cell and wished there were an app that let you reach through a phone and bitch slap someone.” BUT J.R. Ward proved me wrong again because her story was woven in the discreet resonant from the start, I was astounded by the connection she linked from one character to another flawlessly and knew that this was what she was good at. Manny is a normal man, yet he has the guts. While Payne seems to be independent, she is still innocent and looking for Manny's attention when she's with him.“I came to you, Jane. Every night this week, I came to you. I didn't want you to be alone. And I didn't want to sleep without you."The ending fucked my mind. OMFG ! that was nothing I'd expected before. The revelation is everything. Although this is not the best book of the series, but it's unputdownable because of the narration and twists. V and Jane's story is very interesting and I was glad that we see them again in this book.

Spoilage! Enter at your own risk...Decided between a C+ or B-. This is not the strongest book in this series and smacks of Phury's book, who is MIA all the time. I wonder why? BTW I hate Phury's book and this is a close second with my feelings toward it.Payne + Manny = ZZZZanye and their bonding over a horse, and no they don't have hot sex on a horse, and even if they did, that wouldn't make their relationship steamy or otherwise. Also Manny channels his inner BDB language to the point I want to smack him. Sorry, only V can talk that way and not make me fall into giggles.V (with a side of hot black wax and Butch) + Jane = Awesome! *after this you will have no doubt in your mind that Butch and V are just friends, no urges to become lovers or more. Ward has stomped on that and lit a match on it and turned it into ash*The words "true" and "verily" need to be erased from Ward's canon. Also there is a word called "whard". Heh.Xcor and his band of merry medieval horny men = FailQhuay... *sob* major lack of screen time with these two even though Qhuinn really needs to find his own Dr. Dhrew stat. The reveal about Butch and Manny and their relationship has pissed me off because Ward said she'd never go there with them back when V's book came out. Well, she did. Cop out! Spoon BDSM for the win! (V and Butch will never look at a spoon the same way again)So-so book that was more of a disappointment even though I give mad props for Ward because she is a very skilled author.I will continue to read for the Qhuay HEA that is going to take years to get to.

Lover Unleashed, book nine in my beloved Black Dagger Brotherhood series is Manny and Payne’s book – or so we were told. But honestly, this book is Vishous’s. True? Vishous steals the show. Manny and Payne have a romance, but their story is nothing compared to V’s. Nothing. There is also no way this one can be read as a stand alone – you need V’s backstory throughout the entire series to get anything from this book.I was definitely disappointed with the ending of V’s book Lover Unbound, when Jane was turned into a ghost. Not only with the ghost aspect, but I just wanted more of a closure with V and Jane but we get it in this book. V is not in a good place. Payne comes to his side, paralyzed from a sparring session with Wrath. Vishous has had no idea in the 300 years he has been alive that he even had a twin sister. The Scribe Virgin, their mother (who is not in this book which is a shame), has had Payne imprisoned. Now she is here, in his life, and the protectiveness V feels for her is out of control. When Jane calls Manny in to help operate on her, there is that instant “mine” between them (even though Manny is a human). This does not go over well with V, as Butch and the other brothers struggle to keep him from killing Manny. As time goes on, V goes into an even deeper downward spiral. Payne doesn’t heal as she should, and when Jane attempts something shocking, he walks away – from Jane. This scene is very moving and well done. What we really get is V coming to terms with his abusive father, his negligent mother, and his role as a hellren. Yes he loves Jane, but can he overcome his past, and his current broken self to give her what she needs? Can he fulfill the new role as a brother to Payne?Butch plays a very important role in “saving” V. I won’t go into specifics as to not spoil too much, but this issue had to be addressed. He is in love with Butch as we all know. We finally get a little more exploration into this relationship - the one we were teased with in Lover Unbound. As the other continued fighting, the pair of them just stared at each other against the audio backdrop of grunts and metal-to-metal strikes and inventive cursing. There should be something said between them, V thought. There was just so much…to be said.“I want it from you,” V bit out. “I need it.”Butch nodded. “I know.”And just to note – the “it” is not exactly what you think. Also *Mandi dies*Before I started the book I thought how in the world will anything happen between V and Butch with both of them mated (to Jane and Marissa). But it works out totally fine. And it is not the actual scene that fulfilled me, but a scene with them later – a very quiet peaceful moment that to me, lets me breathe a sigh of contentment for these two males. I still don’t know if JR Ward gives Butch and V a fair shot – the big scene with V and Butch is kind of short. But I’m glad she does what she does. And I have to say, I actually liked Jane in this book – crazy, right? I think JR Ward does a nice job with the emotional turmoil between these two. There is one scene where V just walks away from her – and it is heartbreaking. But I get her more. I understand her more. I like her with V now. I’m content with their relationship. And we get several dirty sex scenes with them:“Vishous…”“What”His gloved hand dipped under the black satin, and she didn’t have to see where it went to be well aware he’d gripped himself. The fact that he arched back told her everything she needed to know. That and the way he bit down on his lower lip.“Jane…”“What.”“Are you just going to watch, true?”We also get some classic V and Butch moments that make me smile:Butch clapped him on the shoulder. “Listen to me. You have the fashion sense of a park bench and the interpersonal skills of a meat cleaver – ““Is this suppose to be helping?”“Let me finish-““What’s next? The size of my cock?”“Hey, even pencils can get the job done – I’ve heard the moaning from your room to prove it.”Let’s move onto Blay and Qhuinn, or as they are called “Qhuay.” They had such a presence in Lover Mine I am disappointed with the lack of progress in their relationship. I hear a novella might be in the works for them so maybe JR Ward is saving up for that – but still, there is no Qhuay in this book. We get a tiny bit with Blay and Saxton. And we get a little more than that with Qhuinn and Layla (OMG – I can’t even go there right now). We get a big reveal with Qhuinn – something that will happen in the future. We need to discuss this my friends….soon.No Lassiter or Tohr in this one. No Murhder, which surprised me since we were introduced to him in Lover Mine. There is also an odd side story of a serial murderer. Now in it, we are introduced to Jose de la Cruz’s new partner Thomas DelVecchio Jr, or Veck. I can only hope Veck plays some kind of role in the next book because otherwise I have no idea why this storyline is in it. Unless I missed something. Veck does have some strange…ways, so I assume there is more to come of him. I’m very intrigued. We meet some new vampires, not necessarily brothers, but six men (although we really only meet three) that fight lessors. They fought under the Bloodletter until he died, and the Xcor took over. Along with Throe and Zypher, they are a secret band of “brothers” – I use that term loosely because they are not necessarily like The Brothers. They fight together –killing lessors, or humans. They are much more violent without as many morals. They have been living in the old country, but have realized, most of the lessors have moved to where the Brotherhood now reside. Xcor wants one thing – to be king. So they move near Caldwell and start to set things in motion. So, yes they fight lessors, but they are not necessarily friendly with the brotherhood. I am interested to see how this plays out. The brotherhood is aware of Xcor, but we don’t get any details of the how or why. It looks like the new conflict might be moving away from the lessors and more towards a fight with Xcor for the King.I suppose I can’t leave Payne and Manny out. Honestly, they did nothing for me. If I had to hear Payne say “Verily” one more time I might have thrown the book. For some reason I thought Payne was going to be similar to Xhex, but she ends up more like Layla. She has a few kick ass moments towards the end but I didn’t feel like she was a warrior or a brother like Xhex is. There was just nothing that stood out about them. I like Manny – he had nice interactions with Jane. And I liked out he stood up to Vishous and his interactions with Butch are fun. But for the actual romance between these two – it did nothing for me, which makes it really hard to rate this book. Also – the way Payne ends up healing is so corny. I’m sorry – but I just didn’t get it.While Lover Mine really took us back to the romance, away from the UF feel after book 3, this one takes us right back. In a way, I don’t want to complain because the spotlight is on Vishous. And I LOVE Vishous. Before I started this book, my one hope was that we got a lot of Vishous material. Little did I know he would be the entire book. He even announces at the end that he is officially mating with Jane (tattoo on his back etc). Seriously, this is his book.Bottom line is – I have very mixed feelings. The book entertained me. I read it in one day. I love this series, I love the brothers, I really enjoy JR Ward’s style of writing. I love that we get tons of stuff with Vishous. I think Vishous’s story needed to be continued, but it was at the expense of the main characters. Honestly, I wasn’t invested at all in Payne and Manny, so not getting a full story from them isn’t all that heartbreaking to me. But – this is their book. And they get jipped. With the lack of Blay and Qhuinn after such a build-up in the previous book, I can’t help but be a little disappointed.I also want to note that no one is really set up to be next in the series – and that is driving me crazy!!! I’m very curious to see who it is!!!!Rating: C+ maybe a B-

WOW! Lover Unleashed is a fantastic installment to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, and I especially loved the romance this time! Here’s a checklist rundown of some of my favorite highpoints:*More romance between main H/H? – Check!Manny and Payne were amazing characters, and I absolutely loved, loved, luvvved them together! They were such a sweet, sexy couple with a strong emotional connection and explosive chemistry. In fact, their sensual, evocative romance was possibly my favorite since Lover Eternal and Lover Awakened.(view spoiler)[Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing...HOT DAYUM!I loved when Manny showed Payne that she could have a full, complete life, even if she never walked again.I loved the allegorical connection between Manny’s Thoroughbred Glory and Payne. There were some truly beautiful, touching moments with this part of the story. (hide spoiler)]*Resolution to the Jane/Vishous/Butch relationship quandary? – Check!(view spoiler)[The struggles between V and Jane were heartbreaking, and I really questioned (and hated) where the Warden was taking things with them there for a bit. But alas, their mating bond is now stronger than ever, and so is V.I loved that this also provided closure for doors cracked but never fully opened between V and Butch. As agonizing as it was for Butch to help V break down his emotional and psychological walls, their intrinsic bond of friendship was never more necessary. And I’m glad it was done without crossing any sexual lines between them because that would have completely nullified the hard-fought HEAs between V/Jane and Butch/Marissa. (hide spoiler)]*Less lesser and Lash time monopolizing and plot derailing? – Check!*Intriguing new characters? – Check!Band of Bastards – So many future possibilities with these villainous warriors.Thomas “Veck” DelVecchio – Now I really can’t wait until Envy comes out!*Qhuinn being less of a manwhore and finally getting his shit together? – Not quite a check, but he’s making some least it looks promising.(view spoiler)[*Hot Qhuay lovin’? – DENIED! (WARDen – Please, pleaze give us a Qhuinn/Blaylock mating...and soon!)But in all seriousness, I recognize that Qhuinn is a self-destructive mess and isn’t quite ready for a mature, committed relationship with Blay. I’m optimistic that things are finally headed in the right direction, though. But I don’t want Layla in the mix, at all! True? (hide spoiler)]There were a few things that could have been better.(view spoiler)[*The finally! love scene between Manny and Payne was much too brief and not nearly as detailed or hot as I was hoping for, especially after so much buildup.*I wanted a mating ceremony between V/Jane and Manny/Payne. (hide spoiler)]*The ending was too abrupt and it needed an epilogue, especially since we have to wait another year until the next book!Overall, this is a terrific read and one of the better, more satisfying additions to the phenomenal BDB series. 5 stars!

Opening Line: "Xcor saw his father killed when he was but five years past his transition."**Spoiler Free**Ah yes, how sweet it is to be back with the Black Dagger Brotherhood. It was with some anticipation (understatement) that I cracked open the 489 pages I’d waited almost a year on, and it was with baited breathe that I began. Wondering exactly what direction JR Ward was going to take this 9th instalment in? Well I can tell you that with this one she does not disappoint, giving us fans exactly what we've been waiting for and then some. Starting where (Lover Mine) left off and with her usual flair (the first 4 words will have you smiling) we get; multiple POV’s, evolving story lines, ass-kicking action and major injuries to most of the Brotherhood. We revisit past characters(Jose del la Cruz) while being introduced to new ones, including (among others) the intriguing ‘Band of Bastards’. This group of 6 is around to stay and with them comes an endless supply of future story possibilities. With blasts of tension, humour, romance and way erotic love scenes we witness a couple of characters fall apart, see unrequited love, get major hints of things to come, and while laughing with Rhage and Fritz in the billiards room we also worry about the future of the King. Even though our main love story here is not as dominant as in past books, I have no complaints as Ward manages to include and give us moments with each and every member of the Brotherhood mansion in one way or another. And while I ached for Qhuinn and Blay, then there was V. And oh the V. True? As much as this is pegged as Payne and Manny’s book LOVER UNLEASHED really belongs to Vishous and isn't it great (understatement) to be back in his, intricate, messed up, dirty lil mind. Along with Butch and Jane this trio goes to some very dark places, taking us right along for the excruciating ride and finally putting to bed (so to speak) Butch and V’s relationship once and for all. I loved revisiting V and through him, hearing from the Cop again as well as getting to know Jane better-who has at last stopped feeling like a ghost (I may forgive Ward yet for killing her) And in the afterward, those quiet moments spent between Butch and V well … in his words, “I have no words. Sixteen languages, but no words.”All this awesomeness has of course been wrapped up with Ward's unique style of writing although this time there's a different vibe to it and it took me a while to put my finger on what it was. The multiple f-bombs, rap references and Wardisms are still here but she's managed to stop jumping around as we did in LOVER MINE with Ghostbuster storylines and Old Country flashbacks. She's also toned down the product placement and riddle filled sentences ((i.e.“A gust of wind went Nike across the flat landscape" And with less 'Lessers' to contend with here (much like in(Lover Unbound)and them operating without a visible leader's POV the entire story flows better and you don't find yourself grumbling, wanting to skip ahead. Overall this feels more like one of the original books from the series then the urban fantasy-ish instalments of late.Regarding Payne and Manny; I enjoyed this couple, verily I did. I’ve loved Manny from the first time we met him and enjoyed getting to know him here. His interactions/revelations with Butch are hilarious as is his discovery of Jane and the whole BDB world. Payne wasn’t as tough as I was expecting although she does manage to rescue herself while spending a considerable amount of time paralyzed. Manny’s method of healing her is very... Marvin Gaye and although their actual HEA is kinda corny I liked how Ward found a way to keep them together. In the end Ward leaves us smiling with contentment (although I had been hoping for a mating ceremony and not the one you’d expect) and with events wide open for future stories that I can't wait to discover. I just wish it wasn't so far away because after spending just a few days with the BDB I'm not ready to let them go yet. See ya next year boys, stay safe. True.Oh I've also just learned that book #10 will be Tohrment’s story. Wow that's bound to be a tearjerker. Cheers

Warning: Very Long Review!Let me start this review of Lover Unleashed with a letter to Manuel Manello, MD.Dear Dr. Manny:Ah, Manny. Why did you have to go and steal my heart? You are such a darling man. Just perfect for the daughter of the Bloodletter, Payne. You even gave her a horse as an engagement present. You truly know the way to a woman’s heart. And, did I mention that you are a fantastic doctor? The Brotherhood is very fortunate to have your services. So you found a long-lost brother, and boy do you have some things in common. Namely, you are both tough guys who are sweet as molasses down deep, and know how to take care of your women. And you’re both hot! (Clears throat and wipes glow away from brow.)Anyway…You really took all the vampires are real stuff in stride. And you have exquisite taste in women. You love a strong woman who can kick some serious butt, and a beautiful woman who glows (and I do mean glows) when she’s happy. It’s clear that you’d give her the blood from your veins, and all the sexual healing a woman needs. (yeah, you’re really good at that) And when you apply your doctoring skills to your patient, you really go the extra mile. And then there’s the fact that you are not at all scared of a six-foot, six inches tall brother who thinks his twin sister is too young to have sex, not to mention, doesn’t think any male is good enough for her. You more than proved your worth to him and the rest of the Brotherhood, in the trenches, and otherwise.Manny, Manny, Manny, can I add you to my ranks of favorite heroes, just because you are super-duper awesome? I had a feeling I would like you as the hero of your own book. Turns out I was right. Thanks for giving me such a fantastic story. I’ll have you know that your book is displayed with pride on my shelf with John Matthew and Rehvenge’s books. That’s a real honor. You deserve it.I hope you will be very happy with Payne. Love, hugs and kisses to you.Your adoring fan, DanielleNow Here's My Official Review!:Well, if you didn’t notice by reading my letter to Manny, I really loved this book. I admit I was a bit apprehensive because of some of the rumors I heard. But I was a happy camper in the end. The WARDen handled some tricky issues (for me) beautifully.Vishous and His Relationships With Jane, Butch, and PayneI love the intimate, intense, multi-faceted relationship between Vishous and Butch. However, I am not one of the people who think that they are a better couple than Vishous/Jane and Butch/Marissa. I think Jane is absolutely perfect for Vishous. She understands him deeply, and loves him for who he is. I loved that Jane made some tough choices out of her love for Vishous, and she never resented Vishous and Butch’s close relationship. That’s a confident, strong woman for you. The right woman for Vishous. Hi Five to Jane for being awesome! This book was a good chance to see deeper into the complicated world of Vishous, son of the Bloodletter. I loved Vishous in his book, and I love him even more now. He is one wounded guy. He doesn’t wear his pain on his sleeve like some heroes. Instead, he has buried most of it, and the other part comes out in his need for dark, twisted sex and in his formidable fighting skills against the Lessers. Since he found Jane, he realized that sex could be about love, and he put that (dark, painful sex) aside, although he still likes a little kink in his sex (which is okay with Jane). However, with his issues he faces in this book with finding out he had a sister that his mother kept from him, and with Payne’s injury and her despair about not getting better, he needs an outlet. How can he do that without betraying his vows to Jane? Also, why does he feel like he didn’t give all to Jane and show her exactly how much she means? Can this son of the Bloodletter, a dark soul who was completely rejected by both mother and father, really be worthy of a loving relationship, and still be true to who he is? All those issues were dealt with. At one point in this book, I was truly worried. I thought that V and Jane were going to fracture down the middle, and I really didn’t want that, because I love them together. I needn’t have worried. The WARDen came through for me. I was foolish to think she wouldn’t, for I know she loves these characters even more than I do. It’s really hard to put my feelings into words here. There was something so touching about the bonds that V shares with Jane and Butch. I loved that he was able to be close to Butch without betraying his marriage bond with Jane. V and Butch have a fantastic, one of a kind relationship. I was worried about what needed to happen for Vishous at Butch’s hands, but Butch knew exactly what to do. He got right to the heart of the matter, and gave Vishous the release he needed (get your mind out the gutter). The thing I love most about JR Ward’s writing is on evidence here. She does the interplay of emotions within and between her characters so well. She doesn’t go for the easy answer. She makes things tough for her creations, just like life is full of hard spots and crappy situations. But somehow, even though things can be bittersweet, she always gives us hope. With Vishous and Jane and Butch, I know that there is so much hope there. They will always have each other, just as Butch has Marissa (who also understands the bond between Vishous and Butch). And now, Butch and Vishous have a bond with Manny, very much about ‘brotherhood.’ In fact, this book shows that bonds of blood and friendship are what life is all about, because no man is an island. Bravo, Ms. Ward for bringing this theme to light so eloquently.Payne and Manny:I haven’t known Payne that long, and I met Manny briefly in one of the earlier books. But I liked what I saw of them as characters, and I liked the idea of them together when I heard that the WARDen had paired the two. I wasn’t sure how their relationship would play out, but I have to say that their courtship strikes me as one of the more romantic ones in this book series. There was a sweetness there, both characters star-struck by each other. To Manny, Payne is a beautiful woman not of his world, and way too good for him. He’d do anything to see her healthy and happy, even knowing he has no place in her world. To Payne, Manny is her beloved Healer. He is a gorgeous, worthy male, who has given her a new life. She doesn’t want to say goodbye to him, even though she knows he’s not of her world. Manny is such a gentleman, a hellren any female would want. Payne is a tough girl, but also elegant and beautiful, even if she doesn’t see herself that way. They both have insecurities that they have to deal with in order to find their way together, but they come to realize that love can make allowances for pretty much any shortcoming. I loved the sweetness of their relationship, but also the spicy sexuality of it. Talking about hot! Their short courtship steamed up my room as I read. I knew that there had better be a way for them to be together. Thankfully there was. I know that they are a couple that I want to see more of in the forthcoming books, but I also got to see them get their happily ever after, which was just what I wanted. PS. I also like Manny’s relationship with Jane. They were both isolated people, dedicated to their professions, but they found a bond with each other in their past lives. It was good to see that this bond was renewed and strengthened in this book.Qhuinn/Blay:I like Qhuinn, but he annoys the crap out of me with his slutty ways. I realize it was a tremendous defense mechanism, but it got old for me. To be honest, I was glad to see Blay move on with Saxton, and stop eating his heart out over Qhuinn, although the romantic in me wanted to see these two souls get together. However, Qhuinn needed to do some growing up, and Blay needed to live his life not weighted down by his enormous unrequited love for Qhuinn. Once again, I feel the WARDen comes through here. Although there is not yet a HEA for this couple, Qhuinn is on his way to recovery. His eyes are open now. He understands that he can’t find what he was looking for in his destructive ways. He can’t hide behind the slutty, careless, Goth, playboy image, because the truth will hit him in the face eventually. Now, he has shed this hurtful façade that made it hard for me to like him, and is ready for a real relationship. However, he is willing to put his beloved’s needs before his own. This was the breakthrough I was waiting for. Now, I am eager to see these two get together. I know their book is going to be very awesome. I liked that in this book, Blay is the one who finally has someone. I think that Saxton knows exactly what’s up, and he’s okay with what he has of Blay, for as long as he has it. At the same time, he’s not unaware or unsympathetic to Qhuinn’s feelings for Blay. Sax is a good guy. I like him. It was interesting to see that Blay is the one who’s a little bit near-sighted here. He knows he still loves Qhuinn, but he also feels strongly for Sax. He feels at peace with what he has, even though his heart still beats for Qhuinn. Things are as complicated as ever, ala JR Ward! This chapter of the Qhuinn/Blay romance was very bittersweet, but I do feel optimistic for their future…finally! The Advent of Xcor and the Band of Bastards:Okay, at first I did not like Xcor. He’s not a nice guy…at all. And yet…..I’m drawn into his story. It’s my darned weakness for dark, dangerous guys. It gets me everytime. Already feel like the dude needs a love prescription. My mind is wondering where the WARDen will take this guy. I do like Throe quite a bit. He has the gentlemanly vibe I can’t resist. His sense of honor and justice is strong, and I like that about him. He might also be Xcor’s conscience. I like the loyalty he shows. And it’s clear that Xcor values him and the rest of his crew. He demands loyalty implicitly, but he shows that he is worthy of it, in his rough way. I definitely want to see more of these guys.Okay, a moment of honesty here. I admit, I don’t go for ménage in romance. It’s just not my thing. But let me tell you that the three way between Xcor, Throe and the prostitute was sizzling hot. Um, wow! Let’s keep that between us, okay. I don’t want to ruin my pristine reputation here. (very big grin)Final Thoughts:I always worry before I start the newest book by one of my favorite authors. What if my high expectations for their writing are let down? What if the story and I don’t get along? I shouldn’t have worried here. I didn’t feel let down at all. In fact, If I had one complaint, it’s not even a fair one. If only these books could be longer. Even though I’m happy with what I get, I just want more. More romance, more magic, more everything, because she does it so well. I felt as though I only got teasing glimpses of the rest of the gang. It’s not enough. I just want more! That’s how she keeps us hooked, with the teases and the shots of her awesomeness. But that’s okay with me. I’m a loyal customer, and I can’t wait for the next book!

Sometimes I wonder why this series is so addictive, but then I think hey, I enjoy it so why worry. And I know I am enjoying it when I speed through a 512 page book in a day.In this book, episode number nine, we spend lots of time with Payne and her new mate, but there are as usual a number of sub story lines which move the overall plot forward. A couple of these played a very small part in this book so are presumably laying groundwork for some future story. Quinn and Blay make no progress towards their future, happy or otherwise, though I believe they are being saved for a future book too.And that is why the books are addictive of course. I want to find out what happens to each of the many characters and I will therefore keep reading the series for as long as it takes!

Loved it. Luuvvvved it. Not a whole heck of a lot going on in this one (in terms of action/fighting the Lessers), but I loved it anyway. I just loved the romance in this one... Lover Unleashed is mainly the vampire Payne (twin sister of Vishous) and (the human) Dr. Manuel Manello's story, and their relationship is hot with a capital H! Oh my, the 45-year-old Manny is in a constant state of arousal in this one whenever he's near Payne.:) He meets her when he's brought in by Doc Jane to operate on Payne, after (view spoiler)[ she's paralyzed in an accident while sparring with Wrath. (hide spoiler)] It's lust at first sight between Payne and her 'healer', and the lust grows and multiplies and turns into need and want and love the more time they spend together. (And Manny has an interesting way of healing Payne...and Payne has an interesting 'effect' on Manny). Even though Manny's head tells him that a relationship between a human and a vampire has nowhere to go, he finds it hard to tear himself away from Payne. Before Payne, Manny didn't have much in his life besides work, and his racehorse Glory. But after meeting Payne, Manny realizes what he's been missing. There's plenty of heat in this relationship, and more than a few problems. But god how I loved the way they worked them out! Lots of surprises in this relationship...and I don't want to give anything else away. Just read it. Once again JR Ward amazes me with her ability to write one erotic romance!Manny...This story wasn't all Manny and Payne--there are a few subplots: * Vishous and Jane's relationship is in trouble--these two just aren't communicating like they should. Vishous is really messed up, still craving pain, and still dealing with his past and upbringing by the Bloodletter. Jane asks Butch to step in and give Vishous what he needs (no, it's not what you think). Although it nearly breaks his heart, Butch steps up to the plate to help out the friend he loves like a brother.Vishous... * Qhuinn. Ah, what can I say? Qhuinn is still kicking himself for not being honest with Blay (and himself). He realizes he may have blown it with Blay, since Blay and Saxton seem to be happy together--or are they? And then there's Layla. How does she figure into the Qhuinn/Blay equation?Qhuinn... * There's a serial killer on the loose in Caldwell, and Detective Jose de la Cruz and his interesting new partner (Thomas DelVecchio--is he a good guy or a bad guy?) are hot on his trail... * Annnnnd...there's a new band of vampire soldier 'brothers' in town (or should I say 'band of bastards') led by their disfigured leader (Xcor)-- who had a relationship with V and Payne's twisted father (the Bloodletter)-- and it looks like they'll be trying to challenge the authority of Wrath in future books. But first Xcor has a score to settle with Payne... * Annnnd...the relationship between Manny and one of the Brothers is explored. Could Manny and this brother be related? (I'm sure you can guess who this is...)Oh yeah, lots of good stuff in this one, written in a style that's unique to JR Ward. This was a very easy read, with no slow parts (lessers, Omega, Scribe Virgin, etc.), plenty of building and building heat, some familiar faces (all the brothers and their shellans were at least mentioned, and a few--Rhage, Wrath, and of course Butch, have speaking parts), some humor, and a hero and heroine that I just adored. Payne was tough yet vulnerable, and very, very likable. Manny was I can't put it much plainer than that. I loved every moment of reading about him and Payne. Now, while 99% of the book was great, there were a few things that disappointed me a bit. (view spoiler)[The book ended a bit abruptly. There was no mating ceremony between Vishous and Jane, which I expected, or between Manny and Payne.:( Should've been an epilogue there. (hide spoiler)] A few things were left hanging, which was okay with me (the relationship between Qhuinn and Blay, the serial killer plot, the new vampires in town and what that will mean to the BDB). I'm sure all that will be resolved in future books.Whose story is next? It's hard to tell. Will it be Qhuinn and Blay, or will Ward torture them a bit longer? Will it be Tohr, or does he need to grieve for Wellsie a bit more? Will it be someone new? Or maybe a story about Xcor of one of his soldiers (perhaps Throe)? I don't care who it's about--whatever Ward writes, I will read it with absolute relish. The only thing I dislike about Ward' finishing them. What a letdown when you turn the last page and realize that...there's no more. 5 stars["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

FIVE UNLEASHED STARS.What a opening even the prologue sets the scene for an intriguing and exciting story. The series has been gold standard, every story, every character, every piece and part of the journey is astounding. Another five star instalment to add to the growing pile. I'm not sure how she does it but this talented author has delivered once again and now I'm at book nine of the series, I'm flabbergasted that I'm still entertained at five star standard. So, what's it all about?'Lover Unleashed' delivers what the title suggests, a female vampire, the twin of Vishous, has been kept lock and key for centuries under the prison of the scribe virgin, in this book we see her being released into the world as we know it, but not without trial, Payne sustains an injury and her life is in grave danger. We are then re introduced to Doctor Manny Manello an experienced human doctor who's skills are required to complete surgery. Once these characters meet we are taken on their journey of finding love and all the obstacles that they face as a vampire falling in love with a human. The story also follows the rest of the brotherhood, we get more insight into the relationship of Vishous and Doctor Jane, the dark side of making a relationship work under the strain of an abused past and we are also updated on the other brothers, So all in all a jam packed, incredible book number nine. ❤❤“You are perfect for a female." "Not where I come from." "Then they're using the wrong standard.”❤❤“Sometimes the only way to know how far you'd come was to return to where you once had been.”What I loved ...Well it just about goes without saying that I completely HEART this authors style of writing and putting a story together, but this story specifically delivered something special, so we have a human male falling for our kick ass female vampire and I loved the connection between the two, this author seriously knows how to create scenes of romance and forever loving. I get so wrapped up in the stories that I'm always desperate to read the next book in the series. 'Lover Unleashed' wraps up perfectly and it delivers the usual heart stopping romance and love and if you like your PNR sizzling hot then this definitely will hit your reading spot.Final thoughts ...The brotherhood is a serious addiction, like I have said in previous reviews I never thought I would love a PNR series with a slice of suspense and drama so much. It is not surprising that this author is so popular, the brotherhood and surrounding characters are incredible. So next up book number ten, the bestie buddy read continues, I'm already lining up my five gold stars.❤❤“Love can conquer everything but reality.” ❤❤“Why ever are you here?“ she whispered, putting her hands to his face.“Because I love you.” In so many ways, that explained nothing … and told her everything she needed to know.”

^^WHAT AN UNLEASHING IT WAS!^^*Hardly any spoilers, but damn most of you read it anyways*Another BDB book has come and gone, and what a book it was. I will say honestly, I was not in love with this book. Totally boning for the characters, but not all weak in the knees for the story. I always love to be reacquainted with the men of the brotherhood, but it seems there is an added brother I did not know about (will discuss later). I will have to break this one down cus there is just so much to freaking write, so freaking much.So we met good old Payne in the last book Lover Mine, she is the sister of my main man Vishous, the daughter of the Bloodletter and the mother of the vampire race, The Scribe Virgin aka *Bitch Face*. So she injured her back and she needs surgery fast, here comes the one and only Manny the human doctor (and I say human lightly).Payne and Manny- From the get go, sparks are flying and feelings are coming out strong. I am talking territorial Manny, all she’s “mine”, and the dark spices scenting the air and shit. Payne is captivated by her healer and it’s apparent to all that feelings are running deep. Only one problem Manny is human, and that my friend is a no, no. So they pull the mind erase trick, but eventually they will need him again and feelings between the two will become deeper.I really loved Manny; he’s like my Butch. I love the attitude and I like how he handles Vishous. He’s so down True. Payne is alright as a character. I feel like I don’t really know her, and it seems all that remains is that she is just Vishous’s twin. I wish there was more time spent on both Manny and Payne. Since it was their freaking book! In the end, I am kinda disappointed in both.Vishous and Butch- Vishous was really pissing me off in the beginning of the book. I just can’t deal with a whiny Vishous, it’s just not him. It seemed forced and fake to me. He was just too much too soon, but in the end, I wanted him naked like I always do. I did love the breakthrough between him and Butch. Those two should have ditched their respected mates a long time ago. Once again, this brought to light, that puff the magic Jane and ocean breeze Marissa is suited elsewhere. I just never understood why those two are not together, and I am happy cus I read the Fanfiction True, cus in my head Butch and Vishous bend each other over.Black Wax- Black Wax, where have you been? You don't call, u don't write, and no appearances on V's chest in like forever. The you show up making an explosion on his c*ck. I applaud you Black Wax.Saxton (the added brother)- What the flying Feck, this guy I tell ya. He irked me so I wrote him a letter. To Saxton (The Classy Slut),Do you remember that time when you got beat up and brought to the brotherhood mansion? If no? I sure freaking do, I also remember that vampires heal quickly, and so my question is. Why the hell are you still there? I remember a time when you were lusting after Vishous, and being a big shot lawyer to the glymera. So what the hell happened to your house? I know it’s a scary time with the lessers and all that, but Lash is gone and if the aristocrats of the vampire world are reappearing, my guess is that you could head on home. I am really sick and tired of your Tresseme hair and loafers at first meal. We get it, you and Blay are lovers and all that but man you took it too far and can't he dematerialize to your home. Go home Saxton. In no way do I hate you but you kinda pissing me off with your sexiest man alive routine. You know the Sitch with Blay, let him go.Thanks Darien of Team QUAY! (And if you don’t understand team Blay +Quinn)Letter discretely placed on his side of the bed.Wrath- I was surprised by you for a second there, when you uttered this phrase “I’m also your cocksucking king” to Vishous. If there was cocksucking going on why wasn’t I invited. Did I miss something because I remember clearly it was only you and Beth? Next, my blind king don’t be such a tease. I hear cocksucking and my mind gets away from me.Blay- Tell Saxton to go home. You guys getting it on does not appeal to me. Quinn- My poor baby, he freaking broke my heart. Also, tell Saxton to go home. I just can’t believe the growth he had, I am proud of him and I am looking forward to him getting his shit together and backing Blay up in a corner and bending him over. Had a moment when his story line became a little EFFED UP, and if that is gonna be some complications in the future. Then me and the Warden are gonna have to have a serious talk.To the Prostitute- You very lucky woman. Throe and Xcor at the same time. I hate you, yet I am bowing down to your super awesomeness. Plus, they did deserve that freaking tip, and you should have asked them to kiss. Just throwing it out there. I also wanted a Throe-down, and it Xcor.Veck- I love you, and I want you, and you intrigue me. I like your bad boy styles and I think you could handle the vampire world. I was kinda hoping you would be in it, but I guess the Warden has other plans for you.Feelings- Not my fave book in the series, but it was entertaining. I loved how there is now a story of intrigue. The brotherhood and Xcor and his band of bastards. Its gonna get spicy and not dark spices spicy, unless Layla lands her eyes on Xcor. I wish Manny and Payne got more page time, I don’t feel like I know them too well. The serial spin was alright, took up too much time, but I understand why it was needed, and it worked out well. Even though this book was lacking in awesomeness, it creates a setting for some serious epicness ahead. I am hoping the Warden can deliver, and please stick to maybe two story, three the most and not the twenty-five going on in this book.SideNote- If Manny had orgasm just one more time, I was gonna put his penis to rest. Seriously, you really had all that in you. Needing or not Payne probably got pregnant from default alone.

Oh, my.What to say? all honesty? It tanked for me. I found the storyline weak and Payne, who should've been a kick-ass heroine (ala Xhex, perhaps, but sexier?) was everything BUT. I also found Manny's and (LORD-PLEASE-FORGIVE-ME-FOR-TYPING-THIS) Vishous' story lines to be too neatly wrapped up and tied off with a pretty bow. Furthermore, Qhuinn's premonition? Uh, perhaps I don't recall, but I thought that the only one who could see into the future was V. That felt kind of like it came out of left field. Let's see...what else? I had several issues with this book but mostly it's that it was nowhere near as strong as many of the other books. Hell, I was really disappointed with Phury's book and this one is just a notch BELOW it for me. Yeah, I wasn't fond of it.It didn't even move us along in the BDB world! I don't really care a whole lot about the whole Lesser thing, but I didn't really get too much out of the epic battle that's to come, other than Xcor's potential involvement. Is it that the antagonist in this series will now be a new batch of non-Brotherhood warriors and not so much the Omega's lessers? I am Le Confuzzled. And wait...shouldn't we have gotten a little more insight on Mhurder? For some reason, I thought we'd know more about him in this book. *sigh*Lover Unleashed gets a C- from me (also known as a "Meh") and that's really disappointing because I adore this series as a whole and expected so much more.

Always a pleasure to see strong females in the BDB series..."Love can conquer everything but reality. Which will win every stinking time." Let me start with the following warning: It is impossible to review any book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series without mentioning spoilers for all the books which came before it. With that in mind, you might not want to read this review if you haven't read the first eight books in the series...The BDB Series focuses on a new couple with each book, yet keeps the reader updated with all of the other brothers. The plethora of POVs can be a bit daunting at times, but you get used to it once you get this far in the series. The unofficial breakdown of plot:40% Payne & Manny 40% Vishous & Jane (who had their own spotlight 4 books ago)8% Lead up of Blay and Qhuinn (Who get their own story in book 11)8% The band of Bastards (Who are a brand new addition to the series)4% Caldwell Cops Jose de la Cruz and his new partner Thomas DelVecchioPayneBlooded sister of the Brother Vishous, son of The BloodletterPayne looked back through the glass at the human on the bed. "Yes. I am in love with him. And if you try to dissuade me by the fact that I have not lived yet enough to judge, I say unto you...fuck off." Payne is the twin sister of Vishous. She was kept in forced hibernation by the Scribe Virgin for centuries, and only let out of her cage at the end of Phury's book. She's every bit the warrior that her brother is, and simply does not fit the mold created for Vampire Females. At the end of the last book, she was sparring with Wrath on the Other Side when she cracked her head. Payne was paralyzed by the hit, and Wrath managed to bring her back to the mansion in the hopes that she could be healed.Unfortunately, Doc Jane is ill-equipped to handle the devastating injury to her spinal cord. Her only choice is to reach out to one of her old contacts in the human world... Dr. Manuel ManelloChief of Surgery, Caldwell Medical CenterIt finally happened, he thought as he burrowed under his shirt and took hold of his heavy cross. All his life he’d wondered why he’d never fallen in love, and now he knew: He’d been waiting for this moment, this woman, this time. The female is mine, he thought. We first met Dr. Manello in Lover Unbound. He was the Chief of Surgery who had the hots for Jane. The poor guy is brought to the mansion by the ghost of the woman he once cared for. He's asked to operate on a gorgeous woman who isn't real enthusiastic about the idea. If he fails, he's pretty sure that he'll be murdered, and even if she does walk again, her brother might kill Manny just for being around his sister...Manny manages to get through the surgery, but his memories are wiped clean by his vampire abductors before he ever has a chance to learn if it was a success. The memory wipe really does a number on the good doctor - he's losing his mind with the vague memories, vivid dreams, headaches, and lost time...Vishous & Jane“I wish I were whole. I wish I could have given you young if you'd wanted them and could conceive them. I wish I could have told you that it killed me when you thought I had been with anyone else. I wish I had spent the last year waking up every night and telling you that I loved you. I wish I had mated you properly the evening you came back to me from dead. I wish. . ." "I wish I were half as strong as you are and I wish I deserved you. And. . . that's about it." Vishous was stunned to discover that he had a twin sister and heartbroken to realize that she might die before he had the opportunity to know her.In the wake of these revelations, V's psyche is taking a tumble. His relationship with Jane is deteriorating rapidly, and his self destructive tendencies have shifted into high gear.Apparently the solution to V's internal suffering is to let go with a good dose of physical pain. Enter Butch and the infamous black candled condo filled with all the trappings of V's former BDSM lifestyle. I think many readers have been fantasizing about that particular scene for a while now...Blay & QhuinnBut by God, he was going to stop running from his cowardice. He had to own his shit - even if it made him hate himself to the core. Because maybe if he did, he'd stop trying to distract himself with sex and drinking, and figure out what he did want.Apart from Blay, that was. We pop into Qhuinn's life several times throughout this story. He's still convinced that he'll never be with Blay even though he knows he will never love anyone as much as him... He's been whoring and brooding and running himself ragged to the point that John Matthew finally has to set him straight... Qhuinn vows to turn over a new leaf, stop whoring around and get his shit together. His growing friendship with the Chosen Layla is obviously leading to something bigger. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what happens to the poor naive girl when Blay & Qhuinn stop denying what's between them...For the love of The Scribe Virgin - I can't wait for their fucking book!Xcor& his merry Band of BastardsWrath and the Brotherhood had too long ruled this continent, and to what end? The Lessening Society persisted. The Vampire population had scattered. And those arrogant, flabby, feckless humans where everywhere. Where previous books in the series might have provided a POV to see what was happening in the Lessening Society, this book introduced us to a brand new enemy in the Vampire War. The Band of Bastards - chiefly comprised of warrior males who trained with The Bloodletter but didn't make the cut to become members of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. They have a serious chip on their collective shoulders from being rejected by the BDB, and their leader, Xcor, has a few issues of his own...Turns out, Payne escaped from the other side to commit patricide a few hundred years ago. Her completely justifiable, kinda badass, right in front of the Band of Bastards murder of The Bloodleter left them hungry for revenge.Xcor arrives in Caldwell looking for a way to dethrone the Blind King. I guess we'll just have to read on if we're going to find out how that goes ;)Complete honesty:I've been steadily chipping away at this series for one reason - I'm dying to see Blay and Qhuinn get their HEA. It kills me to know that Ward is going to drag these two through some awful shit before we get there. She systematically strips her characters of all dignity before granting them their own book.I've been a bit underwhelmed with the series for several books. I haven't felt satisfied after finishing a BDB book since Z's story... and that was book four!I hate how angsty and pansy-assed some of these warrior vampires can be...I hate that we keep replaying the "I love you but I push you away" theme over and over...I'm getting aggravated by the constant deluge of brands...I'll never believe that an 800 year old vampire texts like a 14 year old girl...*sigh*But so help me, I'm oddly in love with this damn series. I seem to grant JR Ward a lot of slack that I might not give to other authors. Mostly, I'm just determined to get to Lover At Last - Blay & Qhuinn's book... We'll see if I continue after that...My Other Reviews in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series:1. Dark Lover - My Review2. Lover Eternal - My Review3. Lover Awakened - My Review4. Payne and Dr. Manuel ManelloIt finally happened, he thought as he burrowed under his shirt and took hold of his heavy cross. All his life he’d wondered why he’d never fallen in love, and now he knew: He’d been waiting for this moment, this woman, this time. The female is mine, he thought. And even though that made no sense at all, the conviction was so strong, he couldn’t question it.“Are you the healer?” she said in a low voice that stopped his heart. “Are you . . . here for me?”Her words were heavily accented, gorgeously so, and also a little surprised.“Yeah. I am.” He wrenched off his suit’s coat and threw it into a corner, not giving a shit where the thing landed. “I’m here for you.”Manny has never been in love. Or maybe he has never loved anyone at all in his life. He loves his horse of course. And he cared for Jane. But he wasn’t really in love with her. She was mostly his best friend until she died. And then Jane is alive again somehow and she asks him to help with an injured female who cannot feel her legs.Payne used to love being the sparring partner of Wrath, until the king caused a severe injury and now Payne is paralyzed from the waist down. Payne is transported in BDB mansion where she will soon meet a human healer who can fix her. It is a good thing that Manny is a good surgeon (with a god complex someone may add). When Manny and Payne meet, there are sparks everywhere and this is something that Vishous (Payne’s twin brother who didn’t know that he had a twin sister until then) does not like it. Let’s not forget that Manny used to want Jane and this is something that V cannot forget and forgive.I loved Vishous acting as the big, protective brother:Jane tightened her arm around his waist. “Are you all right?”He glanced down at his shellan. “I don’t think my sister is old enough to have sex.”“V, she’s the same age you are.”He frowned for a moment. Was she? Or had he been born first? The situation will be resolved when both Payne and Manny declare their love for each other to Vishous.V and Payne:“Answer me one thing,” her twin said. “What.” “Do you love the bas—him. Do you love him?” Payne looked back through the glass at the human on the bed. “Yes. I am in love with him. And if you try to dissuade me by the fact that I have not lived yet enough to judge, I say unto you . . . fuck off. I need not know the world to realize my heart’s desire.”V and Manny:“I love her so damned much,” Manny heard himself say. “That’s my heart right there. That’s my woman.”Payne and Manny have the sweetest love story. There is hardly any tension between them. It is just a matter of others to accept it.Welcome Manny in the BDB mansion!Last but not least, welcome Xcor and Band of bastards in the BDB world!

Genre:Paranormal Romance/Urban FantasyType: Book 9 of Black Dagger Brotherhood seriesPOV: Third PersonRating: For hundreds of years Payne was confined to the Other Side. Desperate to be free, she took an extreme measure that landed her in human world but in critical condition.Dr. Manny Manello was a successful and established surgeon. He had everything he could possibly wanted, but still reeling from his loss of the woman who captured his heart. When an unexpected encounter thrown him into the unknown, he must decide what's best for his life.I rarely do back to back series reading. But what happened in last book got me intrigued, I just had to continue. The truth was, he loved her. Completely and forever. But that was the curse of all this for them both, he suspected. While I felt sorry for Manny in past books, I never really cared about him. I'm glad I actually ended up liking him in this book. I like seeing through his eyes the confusion and the wonder of vampires and the Brotherhood life. She was a female who didn’t fit in anywhere, a warrior stuck within the tepid skin of a Chosen’s bodyI've always like Payne since she was first introduced in the series. Even on the Other Side, she was such a badass character. And here we get to see her vulnerability. However as much as I like seeing her flip side, I also wanted more of her badassery (which only appeared at the very end).I like Manny and Payne together and their storyline was engaging. However, I feel like V and Jane's story overpower the main characters. Also, I don't really see much purpose in the sub story of Butch's former partner and the new guy. If Xcor needed some blood to tide him over, he would get it from this woman, or another.Xcor is a new character introduced in this book. I like the potential, but I don't like how he simply accepted the issue at the end considering his mindset throughout the book. I also felt deprived of Murdher which is one of the reasons I wanted to read this book thinking he'd make an appearance. She had the Bloodletter’s iron will not just in her face or her eyes or her body. It was in her soul.Lover Unleashed is a story of overcoming obstacles and standing proud of who you are. I'm hoping the next book will continue with the potential new direction in the seriesP.S.: Is it wrong that I still have hope for V and Butch? Haha!Standalone Books in the series:Must be read in orderFor more reviews/reveals/giveaways visit:

5 Stars!!!!! (Duh! like I could give it any less!)I will join the club and say that I am completely OBSESSED with these books and all things BDB! If you haven’t read this series, seriously, get to it! On to the review!!!This is Manny and Payne’s story. We met Manny several books ago. He is the chief of surgery and friends with Jane. Then there is Payne. Payne is Vishous’ long lost twin sister he never knew about. An unlikely pair, but they work nonetheless. When we last saw Payne in book #8, she was brought over from the other side and introduced to her brother Vishous. She has always kept an eye out for him. She has fought for him, killed for him, and he didn’t even know she existed. Payne has a major injury. One that has left her paralyzed. Payne is a true warrior at heart and she doesn’t want to live like that. So Vishous and Jane bring in the only person they know can possibly help her. The brilliant surgeon, Dr. Manuel Manello. Manny is more than a little shocked to see Jane. She was one of his best friends, and he was still grieving her loss. But he will do anything to help her, so he agrees to operate on Payne. He doesn’t know what Payne is at first, but he knows she is different. They have this straight up insta-love/connection. Payne has lived most of her life like a Chosen, she has never had a man. Manny has had many women, but he has never felt like this. Never felt the urge to settle down and just be with someone. He feels that for Payne. “You are perfect for a female.""Not where I come from.""Then they're using the wrong standard.”They don’t care what others think of their unconventional union. "Yes. I am in love with him. And if you try to dissuade me by the fact that I have not lived yet enough to judge, I say unto you...fuck off.” ‘I love her so damn much, thats my heart right there. My woman.’‘Word.’I could go on and on about the story line for this book. Theres always SO MUCH going on in these things! Payne and Manny have a unique relationship. Once they figured things out, they were really perfect together. I loved the ending, I thought it made sense (view spoiler)[I liked that they didn’t automatically turn him, like Butch. And speaking of BUTCH- HOLY COW!!! Butch and Manny are half brothers??? Didn’t see that coming, but a cool twist!(hide spoiler)] It was great to get a little more Qhuinn, looking forward to his book, a long with seeing some of the other brothers! Let me just say that I loved Manny and Payne’s story. I really did. It was sweet, romantic and I really enjoyed it. But the VERY BEST part of the book.... (If you know me at all, I’m sure you’ve already guessed it...)YES! There was so much Vishous (and Jane) in this story! It was almost like getting a second V book and I couldn’t have been happier about that! Vishous goes off the edge a little in this one, but he comes back better then ever! I cried, I laughed, I cried some happy tears, I totally swoooooned- all because of Vishous! Loved getting in to his head- For shit’s sake, it wasn’tlike there was a twelve-step for being the Scribe Virgin’skid:Hi, I’m Vishous. I’m her son and I’ve been her son forthree hundred years.HI, VISHOUS.She’s done a head job on me again, and I’m trying notto go to the Other Side and scream bloody murder at her.WE UNDERSTAND, VISHOUS.And on the bloody note, I’d like to dig up my fatherand kill him all over again, but I can’t. So I’m just going totry to keep my sister alive even though she’s paralyzed, and attempt to fight the urge to find some pain so I candeal with this Payne.YOU’RE A STRAIGHT-UP PUSSY, VISHOUS, BUT WE SUPPORTYOUR SORRY ASS.Sorry but that quote was just hilarious! I could make this review go on forever, but I am going to stop here and just say this: Another AMAZING BDB book! Sorry if this is all over the place, these books are impossible to review, just too much! But I LOVE IT! Can’t wait until next Friday! Ms. Ward sure knows how to write forbidden romance and the proof is in this series. For those who haven't read any books from this series keep in mind these vampires always have insta love. Insta-love is something I hate but for some reason it doesn't bother me in this series. Go figure. How do you eat an elephant? One bit at a time. This series is a beast. I started at the end of April working my way through it. Spending each weekend reading one book from this series with my book twin, Bev. We've spent a lot of time bonding over the Triple D threat -> deliciously descriptive dongs. I love that we got glimpses of Qhuinn and Blay. When Bev and I started reading these books I informed her that I'm not a m/m reader and I will most likely skip book 11. FORGET THAT...I'm jonesing for their book now. One more book before we FINALLY get their love story.I wasn't sure if I'd likeManny and Payne's love story since Manny wasn't one of the brothers but instead a human. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Overall, for the series, I've given all the books at least 4 stars even though some books I really didn't care for (Butch, Phury and Rehv) because there were other stories going on within the book that brought the rating up for me. Had it just been the main story the book would have gotten a lower rating.FORBIDDEN ROMANCE -> 'After all, you can't help who you fall for.'Cheat sheet for the brotherhood: Wrath: last pure-blood vampire in existence. * * * * * 5 Thank Goodness Stars * * * * *I have been struggling through these last few books, but I have been continuing since my Twinie Amy has been dragging me along. I am so thankful she has been, because I absolutely loved this one!All of the BDB books have side stories and this is something that has driven me a little crazy in the past, but I loved the side stories in this one. I felt these side stories were relevant and because they focused on the Brothers I actually cared what was happening. Even the stories that were not directly related were important. Now let’s focus on our main story – Manny and Payne. Manny…love, love, love…he was sweet, caring and protective of Payne. Payne, V’s twin sister, was strong, loving, independent and I loved her too! She was selfless with Manny, and was willing to risk everything to keep him safe and happy. One of my favorite BDB couples for sure!On a side note…only 1 more book until I finally get to the epic story of Qhuinn and Blay!

Was this book worth the wait? HELL YEAH IT WAS!I always knew I was going to like the next BDB book, goes without saying really and I wasn't really looking forward to Payne's book as much as the others but oh deary me how wrong was I! I wasn't really that fussed about Manny either but I JUST LOVE HIM, he is soooooo much more than I expected. He is loving, caring, considerate,HOT and that man has some talents of his own going on!I loved the fact there were no lessers - What a result!!! I normally skim the lesser bits but didn't have to this time although I was hoping to see Lash get pummelled by JM but maybe that is for another book. The band of bastards are very interesting, however, that they are still talking old worlde english when the brothers don't??? and really, they still live in a Castle and eat of pewter plates??Now then Payne, I just loved her, I loved her whole innocence with Manny, her enthsiasim for her new life and most of all the girl kicks ass! Her moments with V were extremely touching. Manny & Payne are just great together, I'm glad the paralysis didn't last but even if it did Manny wouldn't have cared and that is why I love him.V oh lordy V! his sex scenes with Jane were A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!! There were also some scenes that just pulled at those old heart strings of mine. The scene with Butch well I really felt for Butch and what a friend he is! I don't want to read of anything sexual between V & Butch really, I just love them as brothers. At the end of this book I felt V is now nearly complete much more than he has been in previous books and love the fact he has now "made love" to Jane. I was really shocked to find out that they weren't mated and V didn't have her name on his back, I don't know why I didn't know this earlier! I'm really hoping we get to hear all about their mating scene in the next book as I will feel totally cheated if we don't!Qhuinn *sigh* Qhuinn, what to do with him, I loved the conversation with him and Layla, Qhuinn just needs someone but I also felt extremely sorry for Layla, I know people don't like her but I DO and I hope she gets the HEA I think she deserves. I also hope she is there for Qhuinn when he needs someone to talk to - that is TALK nothing else!Saxton - well still don't like the guy, still don't like that he is still with Blay, just doesn't work for me at all! I'm hoping Qhuinn plucks up the courage and reaches out for *his* man! Now that he has started talking to Layla I'm hoping this is the first step on that yellow brick road for Qhuinn to the lover that is his soul mate. The relationship between Manny & Butch was just FANTASTIC, absolutely bloody brilliant, the two had me in stitches when trying to use the computer and the way Manny knocked V out of the way to get to Payne *sigh* I LOVE HIM!Zsadist you will always have my heart however Manny, you are bloody close, just keep in my line of sight because I got you in mine!I'm looking forward to finding about more about Throe, he really interested me and I want to find out what happened to his sister. So, again was this book worth the wait - OMFG YES, YES, YES!!!JRW you are soooooooooo amazing, for me you just nail it every time and you exceeded my expectations. This book comes 2nd after my beloved Zsadist *heart you Zsadist*

Geezus, you can say fuck but somehow you still manage to throw in verily? DURING SEX AHHHH.Spaz: I would like to see Wrath pass a new law, effective immediately: Take the “verily”s back to the Other side, bitches! And the label dropping, JR Ward you are NOT going to get kick backs from the companies you mention it, so slow it down already.Spaz: Yeah, the name dropping is her MO and it drives me bananas! What killed me though was that Manny was speaking Brother. Is speaking Brother some kind of genetic thing??V. V. WTF happened to V? I think he has officially gone the way of Phury in the wtf category. All love I had for V, gone. GONE. GOOONE. What a bitch he turned out to be.Spaz: I was pretty much ready to help Jane pack her bags.Payne being paralyzed yet she is cured by super dick? COME THE FUCK ON. You so know I was going there & it wasn’t going to be pretty. Male ego wet dream much? He did her so good she could walk again? BAHAHAH. No.Spaz: OMG I totally channeled the 50 Cent/Lil Kim song for Manny/Payne: “Magic Stick”. Look up the lyrics. That is all.Things Pixie is pondering:XCor’s buddy whatever the hell his name is, kills the human murderer…then frames Veck (Detective for it) & wipes his memory. Jose (Butch’s ex-partner) hears Butch in the 911 call, thus realizing he is alive. Somehow I think these two are going to come to a head & maybe the Brother’s get outted to humanity? Maybe I’m wrong, but who knows.Spaz: I totally agree that Jose and Butch are going to reunite somehow, that story ain’t over. Also, word out on the street (AKA the BDB messageboards) is that Veck will be the Hero in the next Fallen book, Envy. Why does XCor hate Wrath so much? Now that he knows the Bloodletter is not his father, watch his real father be Wrath. Cause you know Wrath’s DNA is slutty & gets around more then a two dollah hoe.Spaz: I think that Wrath Sr. is Xcore’s dad, making Xcor and Wrath brothers. Xcore was dumped because of his “physical defect” cleft lip and the Bloodletter scooped him up. There’s nooo tellinggg what the Bloodletter told Xcore over his lifetime to make him hate Wrath… I expect a definite “keeep reeeading” from JRW on that one.Things Spaz is pondering:The Prologue mentions that the 7 Warriors fight “slayers, humans, animals and WOLFEN.” WTF are the wolfen?? And do they have anything to do with the coffins that were mentioned again, by Q when he got home from the Iron Mask?Pixie: Wolfen, like Wolven? Ain’t seen hide nor fur of any beasts up in Caldwell. WTF is up with the coffins, seriously! Old skool artifacts?Throe is in servitude to Xcore for avenging the brutal murder of his sister. He is part of the glymera society that is in the Caldwell area. And, his father was a Brother. Based on Throe’s description it does not sound like he was disowned because of “physical defects”. Was he disowned because he aligned with Xcore to have his sister avenged?? Who was his sister? And who was his father?? Would he be called Throe Sr? Aahhh!Pixie: I full on admit to calling Throe, Toe for the whole damn book. I have no idea why, it just looked like Toe to me. Toe Sr. I agree. While I don’t doubt the daughter Q has a vision of could be his and Layla’s, I do doubt the circumstances surrounding how the daughter comes to be. JRW is tricky! Does Layla spend too much time topside, goes in to her needing, then turns to Q to help her with it and thus they make baby? OR (and believe me, I like this the best) Do Qhuay get their HEA in their novella, and turn to Layla to be a surrogate mother for them?Pixie: OMG I am so on board with the surrogate! But verily, through artificial insemination please. What Pixie lurvedQ almost killing himself as he realizes, yep I wanna tap Blays ass. I loved it! LOVED.Jane almost walking out on V. You go Ghost Girl, you deserved better & that scene made me like her even more.Hollywood & the popcorn machine, totally random & yet I giggled.JR Ward dropping Dana White into a sentence, I full well know lots of people are going WHO the FUNK is Dana White. Google. What Spaz loved:The friendship that blossomed between Layla and Qhuinn. They are two peas stuck in a shitty miserable pod. He confides in her his feelings for Blay, and is honest about his lack of passion for her. He also encourages her to get out and try to find herself and what she wants. I know, it’s kumbaya shit, but I loved it. I know I know, Layla is annoying with all her “verily”s, her clingyness and the “hills are alive” singing crap when she thinks she’s in love, but she truly breaks my heart. His offer & willingness to supply her with blood so she could stay topside was awesome.Jane. I have always been a fan of Jane and to me this was her book to show all the Jane Haters what’s up.OMG when Payne fights off that robber and picks him up and throws him like Superman. I was laughing out loud.Xcor and Throe and The Prostitute Named Kandy. I am not too proud to admit that might have been the dirrty highlight of the book for me. I was disappointed FOR her that they had to wipe her memory of that because, just, damn. <–BEST part of the smexy scenes. BEST. I’d like video. It has to be said, I love the closure between V and Butch romantically. For me, and evidently for Jane, I’ve been worried that they would have a cheating tryst. But where their relationship went was soooo much more. What Butch did for V was just… wow. That half-breed always seems to be saving everyone!Pixie’s favorite line:“For fuck’s sake, he wished one of the SOBs would RuPaul their shift and go all feather boa and fingernail polish. But no. – Qhuinn pg. 118Spaz’s favorite line:“God, check this shit out. From slut to camp counselor in a week. Next up: a guest stint on The-fucking-View.” – Qhuinn pg. 288OverallNot bad but also not the best. I wanted more Q & B, and I missed Tohr damnit. I wasn’t all into the storyline with Payne, I liked Manny a lot more then her. She verily bored me.There were too many storylines going on people, way too many.Recap:Manny & Glory (the horse)Manny & WorkManny & JaneManny & PayneManny & VManny & ButchV & JaneV & PayneV & ButchJane & PayneXCor & his BastardsXCor’s Bastard & The Serial Killer (why the hell was he obsessed with that anyways?!)Jose, Veck & The Serial KillerJose & Butch’s VoiceJose & Veck (Daddy issues much?)XCor’s Bastard & VeckSpaz: 17. Hi! Me again! Let’s not forget the Xcore/Throe/Prostitute threesome! I really liked that part, OKAY? I bet her editors had a field day with that one.Pixie: Dear god, that’s SIXTEEN DIFFERENT POINTS PEOPLE!!! And I was told there was only 18 uses of the word Verily. I verily doubt that. And who the hell is Throe’s daddy?! WHO I ASK YOU! And yes, I totally call him Toe in my head, you know you all did too. Don’t front.Spaz: I called Xcor ‘Excore’ until I remembered the ‘X’ is silent. By then it was too late, so he’ll probably always be Excore now. And I want more Muhrder! We only got a taste of his crazy ass in LM and he was only mentioned once in passing.Pixie: I totally called him that too! He’s like X-Core…Hard Core. Okay, shutting up now.

*** Spoilers ***When I originally heard on JR Ward’s message board and last year’s signing for Crave, that she intended to redeem V and Jane’s relationship through telling Payne and Manny’s story in Lover Unleashed, I became more anxious than typical for its release. If I recall correctly, I understood from comments written and/or stated by JR that she wanted to correct how she left Lover Unbound where V felt more for Butch than Jane, hence why people didn’t have closure on the V/Butch scenario.Don’t get me wrong, JR Ward is an amazing writer and has me sucked into her stories it so much that it was torture waiting until the next book was in my hands, devouring every word. I support her adamantly and still I’m a fan as well as place her at the very top of my most loved authors, however, Lover Unleashed just did not deliver what I thought it might and left me feeling empty. In my opinion, the continuity was a big factor in my reaction and at times took me out of the story completely. I’m not usually this technical because for me if the story draws me in, slip ups in continuity, editing, etc. has no bearings on me and therefore are moot to even mention. Yet the V/Jane story felt like sequences were out of order when taking into consideration the scenes from Lover Unbound and ricked havoc with my enjoyment. In many ways, it felt like JR tried to rewrite Vishous and Jane’s story. The first discrepancy that had me scratching my head was on page 67 where she wrote about V’s visions “His visions were exclusively of deaths – those of his brothers and Wrath and their shellans and children. ……. So what he saw now was not the future.” In my opinion, this almost destroyed the world building for me mainly because V’s visions were so impactful from DL and they were not all about deaths and everyone, including himself, had full confidence in them. It’s why Wrath allowed Butch in the brotherhood; V telling Rhage in Lover Eternal about his mate being a virgin and adamantly stating his visions were never wrong; V saved Wrath with the warning of dogs; V saw Butch in the woods which lead him to trick Butch into drinking his blood; etc. There was only one exception – visions pertaining to him. That would easily have explained why he never saw Payne prior to when she crossed over to kill Bloodletter, and being on the other side I’m sure helped blocked those visions too. Get the pic?Pg 109 The suspicion V would/could cheat and Jane thinking V wasn’t happy. In LU, V was all over her in the bedroom after he released her memories and was smiling like the damn Chesire Cat. I can’t even count the number of times JR wrote he smiled compared to his reaction when he wasn’t around Jane – Z talking about it even in Father Mine how happy he was and that was way before the clinic was ever built. Truly, nine books leading up to Lover Unleashed, the founding consistency was that while yes males could and had taken multiple shellans, the warriors bonding came across depicted as being stronger. So much for the bonded male theory and rather cut off their nuts than sleep with another person if you asked me. Not to mention it really minimized all the feelings depicted in Lover Unbound between V and Jane imo. Correct me if I’m wrong, but in LU, V even revealed when he was going to accept the position of Primale, there was a cream that would make him have an erection to service the Chosen therefore eliminating the problem of him only getting an erection for Jane. This doesn’t sound like a bonded male that could cheat. And Butch, who is a bonded male himself, thinking the same about his bestie just felt completely wrong as if Ward had forgotten what her world building was about.Pg 116 Jane says V never talked about his past, only once. And that she felt he favored blooded lovers. Seriously? How many of us remember the “Oatmeal” convo Jane had with V in bed and then V opened up about his castration and tattoo? *bounces in seat with arm flailing over head* Oooo ooo Me Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter!!! And as for favoring blooded lovers, this is another place where the sequences felt out of order. I could see her feeling that right after the penthouse was revealed to her, but not months after being together with him. Not when you look at context of how V was so happy at the end of Lover Unbound after Rhage had walked into a ghostly Jane and then when she left, he was smiling. (almost a mirror image of Butch and Marissa at the morning table earlier in the book that V envied.)Pg 128 V tells Butch he needs a Dom and there was no one he could trust but Butch. Was I the only one that had a double take? That was what made V and Jane’s moment in the penthouse so SPECIAL because that was the only thing he could give her – his submission and trust. For me, JR completely rewrote their story and gave Butch more value than Jane and completely took from what Ward had established in Lover Unbound. Now if it had happened when he was spiraling in LU before Jane, for me then it would have had a different impact. So for me this didn’t fit where it was written in at.Butch being a “midget” in comparison to V that Butch’s clothes didn’t fit V. *Bangs head into keyboard* When Butch transitioned V, Z, and Phury could only comment on how big a motherfucker Butch was. When V meet Marissa in the game room later on when Butch couldn’t, V wanted to dress up to do it and WORE one of Butch’s shirts. Another depiction that seem to be from an earlier book.Pg 153 Jane got the watered down version of him. The only thing Jane did not see (or was written) was V as a Dom other than the bathroom scene. IIRC, I believe V even stated he was more open with Jane than even his brothers and she accepted him. Wasn’t that another key point of their relationship in LU?Pg 216 It’s NOT in Jane to do what V wants. Penthouse…. What did she do? She knew V needed it, wanted to give it to her and she gave it to him. And he came like a geyser more than once. Granted she is a novice Domme and that was her first experience, but it was his first time as a Sub too. V never came across as a masochistic needing pain/endorphins for a high; rather he needed to inflict it. Yes I realize he needed to be broken but why if he always had to be in control, and long for the control did he come to this conclusion and how did he know it would work relying on yet another novice, Butch? Maybe it’s just me not understanding that POV.Pg 242 V asked Butch not to be a hero and let the Brothers handle the fight. What happened when in Lover Eternal, V didn’t stop Butch from entering in a fight with just guns when he was human and later when Butch became the Dhestroyer he was running to the lesser or the Scribe Virgin confirming him into the Brotherhood? That he was on rotation? I’m sorry for me JR tried to rewrite Butch over in my mind too in this book. He was just as big as the brothers and just as fierce. In this book he came out more like he was human. Again this scene actually felt like it belonged in an earlier BDB book.Pg 243 V didn’t want to lose Butch. Wth? It felt like V was emasculated.Ok… from here on out I stopped listing page numbers but I will get to the rest of the points.Enough with the crossover. There was hardly any mention of any other brothers with the exception of cameo appearance of Phury, and mention of them in the ambush, but more than enough mention of Delvecchio, Del a Cruz, and the murderer. It became more a selling pitch for her next book in her fallen angel series, Envy rather than setting up for the next BDB book. I don’t like being manipulated into reading another series in hopes of seeing BDB considering I could leave the fallen angels behind unless she move Lassiter over their world. Nothing will come of Del a Cruz supposedly according to JR comment at a signing – oh well. Hope something comes of the murderer or maybe he will be used like the ghost hunters to bring in Murhder in Lover Mine. Will these three becoming back – Del a Cruz, murderer, and ghost hunters? It used to be that JR never mentioned anything frivolously but, and I could be wrong, it appears she utilized them so much a person was left going “huh?” Each could have been removed and neither would have impacted the story. The band of Bastards - oh damn, I have a new love. It was the only time that I felt that JR even remotely sounded like herself from earlier works with except for writing Qhuinn/Blay.Xcor and his bastards leaving lessers hacked up. Why? Obviously the Brothers recognized his handy work but why wouldn’t the bastards kill as she stated that they had eradicated the lessers from the old country? Did I miss something? The one hot sex scene was the threesome. What happened to all the raw sex that kept the pages burning up? Mostly watered down. Not a page turner.Layla having been trained to be an Eros, to be used for pleasure, and conditioned to serve the Brotherhood (remember Mary’s shock over Layla’s willingness to see herself as an “object to be handled” p319 Lover Eternal) would be so easily to fall for Qhuinn still seemed out of placed. She was so strong and mature with Rhage and Mary and in control of her emotions. On the note of action, this book was severely lacking. One fight? And the brothers got their asses handed to them and no beast out of Rhage? Just didn’t seem to fit. Not that they lost, but how did they lose? The action was glossed over and this had always been one of JR’s strong points in the other books.Jane crying in the clinic. Really? What happened to that bad ass chick in LU who knuckled down like Manny and detached herself to save lives then crumble afterwards? Who didn’t cry at her sister’s funeral? What happened to V’s ability to reading mind’s and needing to have rap music pumping to block out others’ thoughts? He never read anyone’s mind. Another rule broken? Another rewrite? And the paranormal element was nonexistent. To me, these vamps were more human than supernatural. No feeding required after being injured – who did V use? No bursts of cold or heat. No locks being locked, candles being lit? Then there’s the issue of Manny “feeding” Payne. We are left thinking that Manny’s blood satisfied a major world building parameter of the vamps necessity to feed from the opposite sex of their species. Is Manny the exception now? V not caring if his pants was removed in the clinic? He was so obsessed with not being seen even being injured would he really have forgotten this and not panicked? Why did Payne think V had died? Did I miss the explanation? I know on Facebook and on her board, JR posted that No ‘One gave her a seeing bowl and that was how she kept track of V and how she saw the abusiveness of Bloodletter and the scene was deleted for flow, yet there is no explanation as to how she came to believe that. LOVER MINE, pg. 545-546 "My twin is long passed unto the Fade." (Payne is with No'One and Jane at the Brotherhood's training center.) LOVER UNLEASHED, pg. 115 "The seeing bowls have allowed me to watch him (V) through all the seasons of his life. And I daresay that this time, with you, is by far the best."Ok, now we get into the V / Butch deal. A person who is a novice or a virgin to BDSM as in the case of Butch would not know how to put V in that rig with the tubing. V feared the mask that did not allow a person to see, really breathe, or hear. IIRC, did V not offer Jane a mask and she said no because she had to be able to see his eyes?V had never been a sub before until Jane as far as we knew. He never craved pain or to be taken to the next level of an adrenaline rush. Yet here with Butch he does. He reflects before it began if that was how his subs felt. He said Jane was a poodle to his werewolfism. Really? Why if he had never been a sub before? Granted she probably couldn’t hurt him like a vamp with super strength could but it wasn’t about that with them. It was him turning over his trust which was a huge fear for him to not be in control. And recalling his reaction on his table, sweating and biting into the ball gag, he seemed like he had a breakthrough then too.V bi polar action. In LU he was so happy, excited to get his back cut, and Jane excited to cut it – this was the scene in her bedroom right after he freed her memories when she thought she was cracking. V or maybe it was Jane saying that it was the first time he made love to her in Lover Unleashed. I remembered him making love to her more than once in LU. For example, when he made love to her in her sleep after wiping her memory clean, when he carried her upstairs. I really don’t think he could go hard and fast at that time. And after he removed the block on her memory and he carried her to the bed and it wasn’t rough. V’s constant relying on Butch so much in Lover Unleashed, really sure up their relationship than V and Jane’s. Imo that was what made all the previous books, including Lover Unbound, the male and female coming to rely up on each other and building on their new foundation. Now, I see how V prefers Butch over Jane. It really felt scenes were out of sequence for me as though JR had dumped some scenes that should have fallen in Lover Unbound and tried to recap them in Lover Unleashed to explain the quick jump in V’s happiness. In LU, he wanted to rush to get mated – remember how excited he was to get cut? It seemed, she jumped the gun showing the “happier V” in Lover Unbound after he got Jane - Rhage picking on him in the gym (from the insider guide) and him breaking down and laughing and agreeing he was whooped; Z seeing V smiling at Jane while they were building the clinic in Father Mine. IMO if she had put the scenes from LUnl in LU prior to the penthouse scene, omitting the part with Butch and confiding into Jane, then the happy V in LUnl then it would have flowed better. My head was spinning. Where did Payne and Manny fit in this review? A subplot as far as I was concerned. The focus was so much on V and Jane that it was their sequel. It would have been neat, and fitting, to have V watch Payne fight. As it stands, V just took Wrath’s word on her fighting skills. Does it seem a little bizarre that V asked Butch to not be a hero and stay out of the fight but readily accepts his sister’s fighting? The things I deeply missed in this book that Ward has in her other books were the wonderful way she balanced action with sex, and story with emotions. So much angst. Camaraderie of the brothers? Other than V and Butch it was obsolete. This was the V/Butch/Jane – yes that order – book not Payne and Manny’s, and the discrepancies were so blatant it overpowered the rest of the story.

4 stars !! Ouch it really "Paynes" me to only give this 4 stars ... PayneThe female is mine, he thought. And even though that made no sense at all, the conviction was so strong, he couldn't question it. " Are you the healer?" She said in a low voice that stopped his heart. " Are you .... Here for me?"" Yeah I am. I'm here for you."Reintroducing Dr. Manny Manello“You are perfect for a female.""Not where I come from.""Then they're using the wrong standard.” “Why ever are you here?“ she whispered, putting her hands to his face.“Because I love you.”In so many ways, that explained nothing … and told her everything she needed to know.” be still my hopeless romantic heart ❤... I must know how the Doctor plays his part and fits in with the Brotherhood . We met the good Doctor in Vishous and Janes book .... And then my lightbulb moments hit me...."Let me ask you something. Have you ever been with a man ?"" Never with a human man. And....not with male, either."Right. Fuck kissing. If she wanted to eat him raw he was down for it. "Kiss me, healer ... And don't stop. ""I won't. I'm not ever going to stop." I'm never gonna stop swooning!!! Whoaaaa talk about sexual tension to the 93% degreeeeeeeeeI must admit .... I was slightly disappointed in this book ! There was no Tohr build-up considering Tohr's book is next. Then add a whole new gaggle of characters and TMI overload.....But there was... Vishous and Jane's major side story that helped me❤..... Since Payne is his long lost twin .... Oh yeah baby more Vishous ❤❤❤To be three hundred years old and find out you had a sibling! Nice move, Moms. Real fucking nice!"Vishous ?""Yeah?""Do you wish that I had not come herein?""What the hell are you talking about? Of course I want you with me."shine bright Vishous. Big badass brother mine ❤ beaming sooo bright !!! It took me a hot minute to FORGIVE Vishous just sayin! I kept saying Vishous !!!! WHAT DOING ??????“Payne looked back through the glass at the human on the bed. "Yes. I am in love with him. And if you try to dissuade me by the fact that I have not lived yet enough to judge, I say unto you...fuck off.” One book closer to epic beautifulness buddy read with Christy-Cat and Lisa Jayne and our boyssss of book 11 ❤❤

Whose story was this?!What I Liked:Manny and Payne. They were such a sweet couple; it's a shame they were cheated out of their own novel. I really loved Payne! I loved the way she spoke and how territorial she was of Manny. A few people told me how disappointed they were that she was such a weak female. But I didn't see it like that at all. She was pretty kick-ass every time she really needed to be. I always liked Manny and he didn't disappoint me either. Qhuinn. I was actually hating him in the beginning with all his whoring, but I really started liking him after he decided to change his lifestyle. I'm so glad he has finally accepted he is gay and in love with Blay. Now the question is: Will they ever get the story that they both deserve?Layla and her newfound relationship with Qhuinn. I especially like her after this quote: "I judge you not by the sex of whom you love . . . but how you love them."The last 30% of the book. Stuff actually happened and I really liked the ending. What I Did Not Like:This book was not Manny and Payne's story. It was over taken by V and his "issues." I would like for once to have the book actually be about the main couple. I have been disappointed each time with the last few books in this series. All the point of view shifts. It took forever for something to actually happen. And just when I thought something was about to happen it would shift to another character's POV. It would even switch back to V when Payne and Manny were in the middle of a sex scene. Now, apparently I used to like this style of writing but now i just find it annoying.Vishous! He was acting like such a pussy and throwing childish tantrums throughout the entire book. I was sick of his "poor me" attitude and eventually started skimming scenes with him. He hogged the book from Manny and Payne. That author was pimping Envy!! The third book of her Fallen Angels series. There was  absolutely no point for Veck to even be in this book. His parts in this story had nothing to do with the Brotherhood and were completely unnecessary and a waste of time...other than setting up the plot for his own book in a spin-off series. To be honest, this was probably more of a 2.5 star book for me. And I probably would not have finished it if I would not have been reading it for a challenge.

Seriously, people. First off, BDB books are addicting. However, this one completely missed the mark for me. It really had me feeling that every relationship is recycled. Vamp bonds with female (in this case, female vamp to male), growling ensues, sex sex sex sex feelings, hard cocks springing out of pants, and finally the lovey dovey conclusion. SNOOZE. Secondly, I will continue the series like the fucking addict I am. 2 Ninja-Bunnehs-Dying-Of-Boredom
