Very good book. Pepper needs a job, and a friend gets her an interview with Rob MacIntyre. She briefly met him on a plane and they connected, but if she works for him it's hand off. Their attraction won't go away and soon they aren't able to resist. I really liked both Rob and Pepper. Pepper has been a favorite of mine during this series. For all she was rich, she was very down to earth and a great friend to the others. Her strength was in being able to talk to people, make connections and get donations for the causes she worked for. I loved the way that she became good friends with Rob's sister. I also thought that she was terrific with Rob's son. She was able to relate well with him and was a great help with his care. She carried a lot of guilt over the death of her twin brother when they were kids, but being with Rob and Cody helped her deal with those feelings. I really liked her strength of character also when dealing with paparazzi and people who were nasty to her because of her father. Rob was a great hero. After his son's accident and his divorce, Rob had become something of a hermit. He avoided most social events, preferring to spend his time with Cody. When he met Pepper he couldn't get her off his mind. He hired her to work with him on the fundraising for a local hospital and the more time he spent with her the more he came to care. Her loving attitude toward Cody was the icing on the cake. I really loved the way that he saw Pepper for who she was, not who her father had been. I'm looking forward to Sydney's story.

2.5 to 3 starsNo surprises (and no zombies). The heat level was very low, and there really wasn't much in the way of romance. The whole book is very understated and it left me wanting more.Updated Review -On a recent outing to the library, I caught sight of Texas Christmas. The cover totally sucked me in; how could I resist that oh so sexy cowboy and the horses? This cover is like a dream date for me – the ultimate date would be going riding with some hot dude who likes animals, especially horses, and would actually go on a ride with me. Sigh. Sadly, this scene is not in the book. The protagonist, Pepper, doesn’t like horses, and hasn’t since an accident when she was a child. So, no trail riding with a super sexy cowboy is in this story.Pepper Merriweather is reeling from her father’s arrest. He’s been accused of defrauding investors of millions, and suddenly, Pepper is facing a very ugly future. Raised in wealth, she is now scrambling to find a job. With her father’s face in the papers, it’s getting harder and harder to find the strength to move on with her life. Everyone is placing blame on her, even though she never worked at her father’s company. I thought this was especially unfair, because her father wouldn’t have anything to do with her. They hadn’t spoken in years, and he refused to allow her to visit him in prison. So Pepper is basically taking heat for a jerk of father who hasn’t been part of her life in forever. Pepper meets billionaire Robert Macintyre on a flight home from Paris, where she and her mother have been hiding from the press. He’s a nice guy, and Pepper’s grateful that he doesn’t mention her father and his alleged crimes even once. After rescuing her from a very angry drunk who confronts her in the airport, Rob gives her a lift home. After a steamy kiss, the two part ways, seemingly for good. However, when Pepper’s good friend insists that Rob hire her, or she won’t make a donation for the children’s hospital he wants to build, Rob and Pepper find themselves together again. Add in a massive amount of guilt on Pepper’s part, and you have a slow to burn romance. When Pepper was a young girl, she and her brother were involved in an accident, and Pepper never forgave herself for it. She isn’t ready to allow someone else to love her, either. Just look at her father, who can’t find it in himself to forgive her. How can she allow Rob and his young son to get close to her, when all she does is hurt people? While I found this conflict compelling, I felt that it was resolved too easily. The pacing of this book felt so off to me, and it hindered my enjoyment of the story. Pepper and Rob meet early in the book, and then don’t get together again until about 130 pages later. That didn’t leave enough page time for their romance to convincingly develop. Instead, the focus of the story is on Pepper dealing with fallout from her father’s crimes, and Rob trying to fund the hospital expansion. There just wasn’t enough romance to satisfy me, and I was left wanting more.Grade: C

Loved everything about this book - Pepper has become my new best friend. She stole my heart right from the start. Through all the hardships life has sent her way - she has kept on moving But having to answer for "the sins of her father" may just be her saturation point - time for a strong, tall, dark and handsome billionaire to step in and "rescue" her. And gorgeous Robert Macintyre was the perfect knight to come to her rescue - "Equal parts Southern gentleman and bulldog." Rob's son Cody and his sister Kate were awesome secondary characters. And what a great surprise to see Grandmother Agnes Jane was back - she adds such an aristocratic charm - some may find her highhanded and manipulative but I find her simple delightful. The unexpected twists and turns kept me glued to my kindle.Simple a heartfelt, fall in love, Perfect story. Celebration Bride is next - Sydney's story. Nancy Robards Thompson - Thank you for giving me all these hours of enjoyment! I am so happy I decided to go and read this entire Amazing series - don't know where else I could have found such loyal, passionate and loving friends and their perfect soulmates!! Still room in my heart for all those yet to come!!!

This was a nice read. I loved the potion and the magical element in the prologue related to chocolate. There was a question for pepper in the story of where to scatter her father’s ashes. I liked how the ashes were used before the scattering. The romance worked out well and Robert’s young son with a physical disability added nicely to the story. The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that it ended too quickly. Right when we would expect a bigger confrontation between the two main characters, everything was finished with a simple nod and two words spoken. The epilogue was only a paragraph narrating a few months later. With how the problem was resolved, we really needed to see a conversation take place between the two characters.

Give this 3.5 stars. It just didn't hold my interest like I thought it would. It had highs and lows.

Pepper needs a job, and Robert wants her to work for him. But with her father arrested for fraud, she is afraid this would hurt Robert business if she works for him. Can this be overcome. Also can Robert ever trust a woman again, since his first wife had not been there when their son needed her so much. Lots to work out.Enjoyed and would recommend to others.
