Nice story and simple text that a young reader could read by himself.

This works well as a library story time selection because it has just enough suspense and relatability to hold attention and very scant text per page. It worked especially well for us because it segued right in to our craft -- taping an image of a little forest critter to a popsicle stick and then slicing a slit in the bottom of a paper cup so slide the stick through. With a one-two-three abracadabra the critter can be made to pop out of the cup, just like the magic hat in the story.

I have been trying to find books for my "Prickly Things" Toddler Storytime, and this book came up. It was an alright story about a young hedgehog who is trying to do some magic tricks for his friends but they keep not working correctly. So his friends bring a cake and distract him long enough so that they can eat it, so he thinks he can do magic. Recommended for ages 2-6, 2 stars.

Hedgehog is putting on an amateur magic show. Pencil and digital media illustrations clue readers in on details not covered in text with humorous results. PreK-2.

I was expecting more from this book. Turns out to be a very simple story, the artwork is the redeeming value.

Darling little story that would be great for story time. The sweet little animals were done in pencil and digital media.

Great for 2/3 year olds - the sweet simplicity reminds me of Little Bear or Franklin
