    I first read this short story as a high school sophomore. It left a deep mark on my heart. I don't think a day goes by that I do not think about it. Thus, I found myself thinking of it again and thought I would read it. It is a haunting and heartbreaking as ever. Carver gives us all the trappings of a ghost story, creating a sinister thrill, but, just here and there, Cable lets us know that there is nothing ghostly here, just a deep love.
