Sentimental Garden Lover Reviews
I intend on singing this book's praises until the cows come home, because it's very rare that a yaoi title makes me stop and go "I LOVE THIS" before flipping back to the beginning to read again. The main story is about Fuji, a stray cat who loves Hiro, the kind human who cares for him. Fuji can only watch as Hiro contends with a cruel lover, and wishes that he could be big enough to protect him. Lo and behold, the powers that be allow Fuji to turn into a boy at night. A trite plot device? Perhaps. But the thing about Sentimental Garden Lover that really caught my attention was that it was low key yet very sweet - the writing doesn't rely on drama to make you feel for the characters, it just sort of happens, which I love in a romance story. Sex isn't the end all and be all of the relationships (though when it happens, it's beautiful to behold), but rather an extension of the feelings the couples have for one another.I appreciate Muku Ogura's style a lot, both in terms of writing and in terms of art. Her drawings are beautiful, her characters are attractive, and she knows how to lead a reader through a story without slathering on the melodrama. I'm excited to read more of her books, because I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
The main story in this book is about cats who (basically) magically turn into humans because they love their owners so much. At first I was kind of iffy about the first couple, because to my mind Fuji didn't seem that cat-like. But then I thought about our cat Pumpkin (not in the food-loving way, but in the big, dumb, protective lunk kind of way) and I liked him better. Shima, on the other hand...a;lksdjflskdj ♥ ♥ ♥
Cute, sweet and fairly insubstantial stories. I actually would have preferred it if it had just been about the two cat-couples - the stories all were paced too fast for my liking. But hey, nothing wrong with fluffy entertainment.
El cap de los gatos OMG <3
A cute selection of short stories, although to be honest the only ones I really liked were the ones with the cats.
ADORABLE cats turning into bishounen! What's not to like! (Also Ogura-sensei's beautiful art. :))
