Roused from his sleep by one of King Seronisis’ hulking Hapsid Troopers, Pan is escorted from the bosom of his family and transported in a creaky wooden cart to the king’s palace, where he is to join the famous harem. During the journey Pan is taken advantage of by the insatiable Hapsid Troopers, who explain their carnal attentions as merely ‘preparations for the king.’Yet upon Pan’s arrival at the palace, a routine physical examination uncovers a secret that will set him apart from the other men and boys of the harem. But is this a good thing or a bad thing? Will Pan’s life be all he has dreamed? Or a nightmare?Only the king can decide. And his word is law....

The King's Prize Reviews
This short story has the feel of a fairytale, told from an omniscient point of view. It is less about the characters’ emotions than about relating the story of how this king, Seronisis, came to find the boy, Pan, he was looking for. A little bit of mystery remains around the prophesy that foretold Pan’s existence, as well as what his exact role is. Other than warming the king’s bed, of course. In a way it is a gay version of ‘poor boy gets noticed by the king’.This is definitely an unusual read. Heavy on the erotica (including the ‘use’ of slaves and an orgy), it is also a curious mix of sci-fi and barbaric customs. There are guards ‘bred for strength’ and a planetary ruler on a planet that is clearly not Earth; said ruler is all-powerful and commands people to be his slaves. If you are ready for an experiment, curious, and prefer your stories on the erotic side rather than heavy on plot, you may like this story. NOTE: This book was provided by JMS Books for the purpose of a review on Queer Magazine Online.
This was just porn, and not very good porn, either. The main character (whose name I've already forgotten) is forcibly brought to the king (also completely forgettable) by animalistic elite soldiers (referred to as "beasts") with "huge black cocks" and "wiry hair," rather worrisome adjectives, all things considered. Then he's at the king's harem and there's lots of sex. Something something chosen one something more sex the mc is poisoned though that's never resolved the end. The writing is bad, the characterization is nonexistent, and the consent is dubious at best. Probably best not to bother, though apparently it was popular enough to warrant sequels.
The King's Prize by Wayne's MansfieldKing, Book 13 StarsReviewed for www.heartsonfirereviews.comNineteen year old Pan is woken from his bed on his parent's farm by King Seronis' Troopers and told that they were taking him to be a part of the King's harem. Pan doesn't want to leave the only home that he has ever known but he knows that being in the the harem will bring great honor an financial comfort to his family. On the journey to the palace, the trooper's are supposed to teach Pan about sex so that he can please the king. Each trooper take turns initiating Pan in all forms of sex and Pan begins to love it. They arrive at the palace and Pan is examined by the king's physician and it is then that they find the small birthmark on Pan's groin that shows him to be the foretold mate of the king. King Seronis is so happy to have finally found 'the one'. He and Pan come together for a mind blowing sex that is beyond anything the king has ever experienced before. The king is so enamored with Pan that he decides to dissolve the harem for good. During the goodbye celebration for the harem, Pan is poisoned. The sobbing king is beside himself with worry and he has the entire harem locked in the dungeon until he can find the culprit or if Pan dies, they shall all suffer. The Royal physician treats Pan and after a difficult night, Pan shows signs of recovery and Seronis is told that Pan will live. This is a very short story and does end in the middle of everything. The descriptions are often crude and this should not be read by someone who is easily offended. I happened to enjoy the story and I look forward to the next book, The King's Justice.
An erotic gay short story, as such there was not much effort to develop a plot outside of the erotic theme. Never the less there is a fairy tale theme of a poor farm boy finding true love with the king of his land. The ending of the story is left open with a HFN (sorta) ending. This is likely for the sequels.MM Erotic readers may find this short story enjoyable. However, I felt the romance was too mild, the sex too casual and the ending was too abrupt for my personal preferences.
