With the prior 7 books so great I must admit I was prepared for a little bit of a let down in this final book. I couldn't see any way she could top there other books. But I was truly surprise and would give this one a six if I could. Emily Rodda did in fact come through with a fabulous ending and one I did not expect. And the suspense was there all the way until the end and the final secret was all it should have been and more. A wonderful read. But be sure not to read this one until all the other seven books have been read. I hope to read this series again.

WELL, now! A fitting end to a fun romp, for kids AND adults. This one is filled with surprise after surprise, the clues to which were there all along. The True Heir of Deltora is finally identified (nope, not givin' the name away, wouldn't be prudent, not at this juncture), several characters are not, or perhaps more than, who they may appear, and all this wrapped in a coming together of the Tribes and fights with bad guys and the Big Bad Guy (the Shadow Lord, of COURSE!) In contrast to all the other Deltora Quest books, this one gets Four, rather than Three, stars, because of how it gets wrapped up, ketp me happily going on. A good time, definitely recommend the series. OK, on to the "Artemus Fowl" series!

I enjoyed the series and gave this one the highest ranking because I felt like in towards the end the author started making things a little more fun with a few surprises. This whole series was a great read to be done with a son or daughter who enjoys fantasy. Nothing too dark, nothing too scary. Just entertaining.

This story is captivating in its narrative imagery. Difficult to put down and raced off to read the next one in the series. I couldn't put them down until I read them all! WHAT A GREAT ENDING- I was holding my breath!

ALLLL THE PLOT TWISTSNo regrets about re-reading this. Deltora has a special place in my heart. I don't care what anyone says, ten-year-old-me had pretty great taste in books.

Wow! What an amazing story! This was so much better than I had ever expected it to be. Action, adventure, friendship, danger, and tons of surprises! There are so many moments throughout the entire series where you find yourself in complete and utter shock. Either there was an amazing plot twist, or something happens that makes you wonder if this book is really appropriate for kids. Ms. Rodda does not pull any punches! But, at the same time, this is a perfect series! If you want kids to fall in love with fantasy, you have to start them off with books like this. They're good stories, and yet so much more. I don't read a lot of fantasy, but I can't stop gushing over how much I loved these!

I love being able to go back to this series every couple of years and enjoy it as much as I did the first time. Wonderful series and one I'll keep rereading for a long time!

Return to Del is a very good book. In Every page of this book there is a new twist on the story, and it makes it that much more interesting. It is the best book in the series and is a good way to end the story of Lief and his friends. I was upset with how it ended, but that didn't really effect how great this book is.This book starts out slow. In the beginning it wasn't that exciting. There wasn't any action, just a buildup to what would happen in the last about 50 pages of the book. Lief figures out who Doom really is and why Jazmine was found in the forest. There is even a huge twist in who he thinks they are now. Lief finds out the history of his parents and why he was picked to find the belt of Deltora. It ends in a cliffhanger, and that is bad decision on part of the author since it's the last Deltora Quest book.I would recommend the book to younger boys and girls who like fantasy because it was a easy book. There weren't very many hard words. The book was very easy to understand if you read the other books in the series.

What a wonderful conclusion to a fantastic series. The final 6 chapters or so were filled with so many reveals and were so exciting that my son didn't let me stop reading. And since I wasn't disinclined we read the last 50 pages or so in a rush of anticipation. A very satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended for readers of all ages, although occasionally I thought "ooh this is a little brutal for my 7 year old". But what I want to say is that younger kids can enjoy it together with their parents, if they don't scare easily. Older kids will enjoy it immensely, and adults (me!) can also enjoy its cleverness and action-packed originality.

I started reading this series when I was a lot younger and so when I came to the last book a couple of years later, I guess I just lost interest. I tried to read it but I just sorta gave up and skimmed through it.

This is a fantastic conclusion to the first of the Deltora Quests. The gems have all been restored, but the trio still have to find out where the heir to the crown has been hiding. The path to finding the unknown child is filled with tricks and treachery from the Shadow Lord. Every step feels as thought Lief, Barda and Jasmine have taken one further step into the web of deception that has been spun.I love the fact that the truth of the heir is under the trio’s noses the entire time. The best place to hide something is in plain sight, and Endon and Sharn made sure that they did this. The surprise heir and ending finishes off the quest for Deltora. But, it makes you feel like there is more to tell. The trio and their friends may have caused the Shadow Lord to flee from Deltora, but he is by no means done with the country.

How many fucking times can you get an answer wrong? I bet not as many times as the people in this book got the identity of the heir wrong! And where is my giant mech suit? In the anime the belt created a giant human shaped mech suit and the shiny human thing and the Shadow Lord wrestled. (check it on youtube if you don't believe me)But overall, it was a good finish for the series. It was a really frustrating ending but I was kind of happy a the end. Everything paid off, we had a few fairy tale twists and the Shadow Lord is vanquished for now. I cannot wait to decide how they will come to the conclusion that the best thing to be done is to chase after it.... Idiots.

Ah for an ending I did find it just a little too confusing at the end - the action scene that leads up to the final confrontation. But apart from that a great series and one that my son and I have enjoyed thoroughly.

In my opinion, this book makes a great conclusion to the first Deltora Quest series. I revolves around the series three main protagonists, Lief, Barda and Jasmine who have finally retrieved the seven gems of the belt of Deltora and are on their way back home to face a common enemy. This certain book in the series deals with different themes in comparison to the other novels. It show's the main characters more emotional side to the conflict and how they cope with having their loved ones completely surrounded by danger. As they return home, they notice how the Shadow Lord's forces have already arrived in Del, waiting for the protagonists to return with the belt. The Heroes are forced into hiding in order prevent themselves and others from being hurt whilst trying to prevent the belt from falling into the wrong hands. What I truly liked about this novel is the level of emotion showcased by each of the characters in the novel and how appropriately their thoughts fit into the situation at hand. What I also liked about this novel is the level of description, particularly from the secondary characters about how they cope under the Shadow lord's tyrannical regime and what they have to do in order to survive. What I do criticize about this novel is the lack of adventurous feel to the story like the previous novels and the lack of thrill throughout the story (except for the end). I also criticize the stale environment whilst the characters are in hiding throughout most of the novel and the lack of interesting environment description, in comparison to the previous novels. Other than that, I have truly enjoyed this novel, I reckon that it is an excellent conclusion to the first Deltora Quest series and I highly recommend it to anybody who is a fan of the fantasy genre. I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.

After a slow start (in which both the characters and plot seemed to struggle for direction a bit), this quickly turns into a fun, fast-paced adventure, and one of the most rewarding of the series. It really ties things together, pulling from all the books that came before it, and contains both some revelations that I'd long foreseen as well as some very big twists and surprises.

I'm going to write a proper review for these series eventually, I swear. But for now, let me just say that I loved Dain more than anyone in the books. I was literally shouting, 'My Boy!' every single scene that he was in. And when he was apparently thought of as the son of Endon, I was like, 'I knew it! *insert loud proud howling noises here*'. Then Lief had to come along and ruin my dreams.Gosh dang it, Lief! Also, God, if only Dain didn't eventually turn out to be a villain. (Not that I'm not okay with that, because i'm into villain-y type of guys, but yeah. He died. So noooooo.)I loved the other characters too though! Really, I did. And I'm proud of how faaaaaar they (the big three aka Lief, Jasmine, and Barda) have come. And I honestly didn't expect the plot twist, which was kind of sad. But clever! Definitely clever. I can't wait to read the rest of the author's series. (And the 3rd and 4th books. I blame the locker and the classmate, sigh)

The books are easily simple enough for children as young as seven, but not sophisticated nor complex enough to be captivating for older readers (10/11 +). They are enjoyable, and the storylines could be made into something truly exciting and intriguing, but the format, which is limiting, and the emotional sparseness of the narrative, hamper the books. There is also far too little character development. And the series lacks subtlety when it is needed most, stating the obvious, and then becoming vague when clarity would be advisable. Especially for Jasmine, who is a central character, but receives very little attention, certainly not as much as she deserved and which would have really fleshed out the story, deepening the impact of her relationship with her father, their friends and allies, and esp. Lief.Dain was a surprise, first one in the whole series for me. But a very weak conclusion, even with the two other series. 2.5 stars

A fun series that is remarkably well written. Though written for a younger audience it is worth reading even for adults due to the skill with which the world is crafted.
