National Geographic kids created a beautiful nonfiction book about sea creatures that don't fit the normal Nemo style. Great pictures and facts about animals that I've never heard of but found fascinating.

Hooray for Fish By Lucy Cousins 2010I chose this twin text because it gives students the knowledge that multiple different types of fish live under the ocean that we are unaware of. This will spark their interest to learn more about these animals under the sea. I would like to do an anticipation guide with my students to see what they know about these creatures and then after reading, show them how much they have learnedThe structure of this non-fiction book is description. It goes into depth about interesting sea creatures in the ocean, supplying information about their habitats, what the look like, what they eat and many other unknown and fascinating facts. I could tie the anticipation guide into a KWL chart for the students to see their knowledge on sea creatures expand. (January 01, 2009). This book would definitely please our male students! This is full of pictures of, exactly what the title says, Weird Sea Creatures. Several of the pictures are from deep below the sea and are not the run of the mill fishes and sharks. This could be used in cross curricular activities with science classes due to the subject matter. Students could be shown pictures of the creatures and asked to be creative and name the creature and tell the characteristics just from seeing the picture. After the students complete this, they can be given the factual information about the creature from the book and compare what they wrote. Themes-deep water sea life, extraordinary animals

This book is full of weird information about animals that live in the sea. It has great pictures and really good information. The book is easy to read, and students that are not readers yet will be able to enjoy it. I liked the information that was presented in the book. It makes the ocean seem very interesting and enlightening. The book is a good example of a nonfiction book with headings and words that point out the pictures.I would use this book in a study of the ocean or when learning about reading nonfiction texts. This would be a good book for all levels of readers because of the pictures and the easy, but informative, text.

This book is about sea creatures that most children might not have ever heard of. The author does an excellent job in giving the children new vocabulary words with pronunciation guides so they can learn how to say new words for themselves. There were several interesting facts throughout this book about all different kinds of sea creatures.I really enjoyed this book in how simply the book was put together and how children could learn new facts about sea creatures.I would probably just keep this book in my personal classroom library so children could read it in their own free time.

This book is definitely for more advanced readers. There are several weird sea creatures that I'm sure many people have never heard of! There is a quiz in the back of the book and also a list of vocal words with its definition to quiz how well your student it grasping the information being read. I would recommend this book to a child who LOVES the ocean and even science! I was hooked on the pictures and fun facts about these creepy creatures!

This is a very colorful and exciting book filled with information. This would be an excellent addition to the informational text books in a classroom. National Geographic sets up the book in a way that can be picked up and put down at any spot, allowing it to be a good one to share information or facts from with the class. I would recommend this book for first graders through fourth graders.

This book was really cool. There are some really weird sea creatures. Some were hard to believe even though the pictures they used were great. Really good colors. Learned a lot even as an adult. Would definitely have in my collection.

I'm counting what I have read to the first graders because I don't have time to read real books during the day and I have a goal to meet- part (?????)
