It contains over 6,000 cross-referenced A-Z entries, and offers unrivalled coverage of all aspects of this vast and often complex subject, including theology, churches and denominations, patristic scholarship, the bible, the church calendar and its organization, popes, archbishops, saints, and mystics. In this revision, innumerable small changes have been made to take into account shifts in scholarly opinion, recent developments, such as the Church of England's new prayer book (Common Worship), RC canonizations, ecumenical advances and mergers, and, where possible, statistics. A number of existing articles have been rewritten to reflect new evidence or understanding, for example the Holy Sepulchre entry, and there are a few new articles. Perhaps most significantly, a great number of the bibliographies have been updated.Established since its first appearance in 1957 as an essential resource for ordinands, clergy, and members of religious orders, ODCC is an invaluable tool for academics, teachers, and students of church history and theology, as well as for the general reader....

The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church Reviews
I received this as a gift for some very dear people in my life. It also happens to be one of the best and most trusted resources I have to turn to for anything related to the church. High recommended!
I find this to be a valuable reference book. The development of western civilization and the Christian Church have been intertwined for 2000 years and as a cultural reference this is the most interesting book I have found so far. My copy is almost as old as I am and I bought it used but feel so very fortunate to have found a copy at all.So many of our cultural references are their basis in the church and I often find an explanation for a habit or custom that has its' origins in the popular lore lost in time.
The standard desk top reference which I keep within easy reach. The only reason It does not get five stars is its English Church focus which comes up short for some basic American church topics. Easily fixed by putting the Dictionary of Christianity in America right beside it.
Most books are rated related to their usefulness and contributions to my research.Overall, a good book for the researcher and enthusiast.Read for personal research- found this book's contents helpful and inspiring - number rating relates to the book's contribution to my needs.
Handy resource for historical theology and church history

Excellent resource! I can't think of a single item that I needed some information on that wasn't given in this volume. This one is worth having on your bookshelf.
An absolutely amazing book of all things having to do with the Christian faith.
Probably my second-favorite reference book, behind the Cambridge Dictionary of Philosophy.
