WOW... I never thought that I would 'ere say this about a book based in Scotland, but NOTHING happened! You start the book and Donall has already been captured, and then you meet Isolde. Then he's taken to her room and they quarrel, she denies wanting to bed him (which in essence is what she wants), and he denies that he wants her in any fashion all the while thinking how much he would want her. And the pattern repeats it's self. She accuses him of murdering her sister by association, he denies it, they have more words and make eyes at each other. Finally they have sex, but she still denies even liking him. Then they have more sex. And then her betrothed's men com to the keep, everyone is torn in whether she is a harlot or not. Donall escapes, his brother comes with men they go back to the castle where they discover Isolde's uncle trying to kill her and he has reveled that he is the one that killed her sister. In the end it only really gets 2 stars because one of the final scenes made me laugh.

This novel started out very very slow in the beginning, with circuitous scenes of dialog that would just not end. Finally, around page 200, it started to get interesting! So I read on, and finished it, and did enjoy the ending.

Verbose where it wasn't needed and without explanations in areas that needed to be expounded on for clarity. Transitions were nonexistent leaving me completely confused on more than one occasion.Sweet love, but the concept of consent is long forgotten. If the genders were reversed there would be outrage and in an attempt to show that the man still has the upper hand he makes a speech when boiled down it simply states, "I'll have you, even if that means raping you." Both being tortured all day and then tied to a bed to perform "baby-making" duties and being told that your consent to have sex doesn't matter are equally repulsive in my view. The characters were flat, the plot repetitious and overall I just simply did not enjoy this book.

quote from the book : "the cryptic words proving her addled state of mind" that was exactly what i thought of the author.this is the first book i am reading of hers and the last. it started off ok ...then we move on to witches and portions and bad breath and frogs legs( they eat frogs meat) WTF? i could not bear to finish the book.

I have trouble finding books by this author in my local Books-A-Million store and used book store. And it's a shame, because I've enjoyed the books I have been able to find by her. She knows how to write a good medieval Scottish romance. This is an entertaining story of revenge, surrender, and the desire for peace. Donall and Isolde keep the pages steamy.

The story was good, lots of suspense, but a bit more sex that I usually go for. Plus they were not married, which I do not like. But I skipped over the parts I did not want to read and the rest was pretty good. Interesting take on the Scottish Laird theme.

A linear plot without much depth. The characters were not developed and the book felt like it was written in haste, just to get the title on the shelf. The romance scenes were quite boring and did not add to the story. Definitely yawned through the last 150 pages.

I thought the story was a bit long in the middle. It took a long time to get past Isolde's intentions of seducing Donall to the actual event. I liked that even though Isolde had never been with a man, she made it part of her plan to learn how to seduce one.

The only straightout smutty romance novel I've ever read. I liked it because it dealt with Scotland.
