Plain Jane Reviews
Plain Jane is a cute YA book. It addresses the standard day-to-day issues teens deal with (dating, teasing, insecurities, etc…) in a fun and humorous way. Jane is a likeable, quirky and memorable character. Pros: The first person narrative gives us an in depth view of Jane’s inner feelings and concerns. Many teen issues are tackled, but not in an ‘in-your-face’ way. Jane is a nicely developed character, and her story is fast-paced and engaging.Cons: The dialogue is a little wooden at times, and the numerous characters in the story can become a little confusing.Overall: I feel this story is an interesting and valuable read for teens. It softly steers the reader through choices or circumstances Jane goes through that the reader may find valuable in their own lives. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”
PLAIN JANE is a stream-of-consciousness novel and as such reads more like a diary than a fictional story. Because of this, the reader becomes privy to private thoughts and opinions of "Jane" along with conversations and events that occur during the formative years of her life, namely mid to late teens. Jane is an endearing character and her internal dialogue, though stilted at times, is for the most part charming. Her stories jump from one moment to the next, but it's written with a witty context which makes it extremely easy to follow and enjoyable to read. Though there are minor parts which appear predictable, the honest and sincere qualities of Jane not only make her likable but relatable, lending her story a sense of believability. This isn't the type of story I'm typically drawn to; however, I enjoyed it because it reminded me of my youth and the challenges we face to be seen, heard, and perhaps most importantly, loved in this world.
Very fun cute book. I know sonia and she is a very talented lady. I am excited to see she had published a book. I long time dream for her.. Hope she keeps writing with more to come. Good luck Sonia.
Very interesting book. It details a young woman named Jane and what she goes thorough as a teenager and young adult. From boyfriends to getting married adn all the other typical teen stuff. I would definitely recommend it.
