This volume has a "Gift of the Magi" feel to it.

Minor spolier ahead. This book ended the minor backstory arc for a few characters. I feel like the series is now better off and back to what the first book gave an impression of. I will continue to read the story until the end.

Gets one star off for victim blaming. Otherwise, an excellent volume.

These kids are way more mature than they should be at their age. As it stands none of them have really had an easy life save for maybe Kodama but he was a strange bird so who knows. We don't really get to see much into his life except for his love for his father. And now there are two adults who have entered into the contract after the kids realized they were short two pilots. Koyemshi is speaking to someone we can't see when the kids aren't in the cockpit. He's an evil little fucker it seems. So far my theories about the robot don't seem to be holding true so it shows how much I know about stuff!

When you read about what happened to Chizu, who fell in love with her teachers, it really feels like this skewing more and more towards an older audience. That being said Chizu is one of the best characters of the series so far. Also, more fights!
