Unfortunately, this quickie didn't work for me. Bret and Callie were meh, their "love" scenes didn't raise my temperature and I didn't believe they were in love. She was still recovering from her divorce and based on his "declaration of love", he was basically in lust, not in love. And don't get me started on Bret's marriage proposal, when he described all the sex acts he wanted to do with to Callie, saying that his horny words were proof of his undying love... Ugh!So why didn't I give this read a lousy 1-star rating? Because I kind of liked the beginning, when they were just friends exchanging some easy banter - hence the 2 stars.

I should generally preface that I rate these based on expectations for the genre, and what I like. Not compared to classic literature or something. This was a nice bit of erotica for me. It had the long-term, believed-to-be-unrequited love thing going on, and the insecure chubby heroine. Lots of angst and disbelief, and therefore the requisite reassurances as the hero shows the heroine how beautiful she is. Nice.

a sweet read and endearing characters, given its length.
