Castle of Fear Reviews
I was hoping for a nostalgic 1960's-70's romantic suspense/gothic on the order of Mary Stewart, Jane Aiken Hodge, or Barbara Michaels, but was disappointed. Silly, stereotypical characters with no development. Writing seemed geared for a twelve-year-old level, with only minimal dialogue, and even setting description (with setting being the most going for it) was cliched. Transparent 'mystery' plot. Not worth the time, though it was a very fast read.
This is a very satisfying young adult novel. Late 50's early 60's time period set on an island similar to Mont Saint Michaels in Brittany France. Romance, sunny days, travel, old castle... It's a nice summer read with all the summer wanderlust feels.
It was okay, I wavered between 3 and four stars. The heroine acted really stupid at one point. So much so that it seemed out of character.
