This fourth book in the series is as interesting as the other three and focuses on building the overall story further. I really liked that the somewhat mysterious dragon shifters get to play a bigger role. With the addition of vampires, most of the mythical beings I can think of have now made an appearance. The stage seems set for a grand finale...Jared is the werewolf (Loren and Flame's younger brother). He was happy to find his mate at the end of book #3, but is now devastated because the dragon shifter returns to China - and doesn't come back to him. Jared feels betrayed and when he is finally attracted to another man, he pulls back. The combination of past hurts and the idea that a werewolf only has one mate (even though that was shown to be wrong by Loren) holds him back.Zongxian is the dragon shifter who wants nothing more than to be with Jared. But his sense of honor requires him to return to China. His punishment is so severe, it made me cry out at the injustice of it. There is a lot wrong with a society that has laws as strict as the dragons'. The potential for more drama as that group sorts out its internal differences and advances to a more just way of handling things is enormous.Tomas, a vampire who starts out as an assassin, grows the most in this book. He changes from someone who follows orders to thinking for himself (motivated by having found his mates) and, in many ways, is the key to normalizing Jared and Zongxian's relationship. The way he and the vampire nation are portrayed isn't very flattering (initially), much like the snakes and dragon shifters used to be.So far, each of the books has not only contributed its piece to the overall story, but has also added depth and understanding of each of the 'bad guy' races. Seen through the eyes of the main characters and their developing relationships, Scarlet takes us on a journey of discovery that is more than 'just' a love story. The examination of prejudice adds yet another layer to this multi-faceted world. I can't wait for the next book!

For two long, agonizing years Jared has lived without his mate Zongxian who had promised to return but didn’t. In a stroke of Murphy’s Luck, Jared meets his second mate and vampire, Tomas, who was sent to murder him and take the jewel Jared had been given to protect. It seems that vampire nation feel they are the only one that can have the amulet and let see, let’s kill all the Guardians when they take the pieces from them.I have to admit I did a lot of talking to my kindle, huffed around the house at intervals, and burnt the sandwich I was toasting for dinner. Jared got tromped on and I took offense in his stead for apologies never said or activities that transpired while Jared was in the cruel hands of the vampires. The clan leader needed to be fileted in my profession opinion and I am miffed that I didn’t get that satisfaction in this book. I can only hope that he writhed in pain and will die in the next book.Zongxian punishment by the dragons was extreme, cruel and unjust. Quite frankly it made me a tad mad…just a smidgen. I was glad that Zongxian didn’t take it lying down though, even though it didn’t change things.I really didn’t warm up to Tomas until closer to the end, and even then to tolerate him not really like him. My impression of the vampires when Jared was kidnapped is that they are mindless drones. They do what they are told no questions ask. It makes them appear impersonal, lacking personality and cold. Tomas didn’t like his assignment but it was going to do it anyway. If Jared hadn’t been his mate, he would have followed through to completion. I am not even going to tell you what I think of the vampire prince. I am too much of a lady to disparage a man who can’t keep a handle on him own affairs. The Fae have been introduced in this book with Brian and Reese and though I liked Brian the Fae in general gives me the creeps. But like I said, I like Brian and hope the next book is about him.If you couldn’t tell, I really enjoyed this book and series. The people and the plot are fantastic. I can’t wait to read more!

Everything about this book worked for me. The storyline kept me in suspense and I couldn't wait to see how they would overcome the obstacles involving Jared's new mates, his kidnapping and who would end up with the amulet Gaia's Spirit. I think it was learning more about the dragons and their society as well as the appearance of the vampires that kept me turning the pages. I loved the relationship between Jared, Zongxian and Tomas. These three strong men, previously living apart in different countries, meshed together very well. I liked how it was a new experience for all three of them because they had just met and didn't know what to expect from each other. What made it even better for me was that even though they were both dominant men, Zongxian and Tomas were just as hot for each other as they were for Jared. There were even more new characters introduced that I hope to hear more from, especially Brian and Izador and even the vampire prince. I hope there will be more books in this series. Please?

I enjoyed this latest installment of the Deadly Mates series. We have wolf shifter abandoned by his mate after one quick meeting, a vampire assassin commanded to kill our hero, and a dragon forced into hibernation with no way of communicating with his mate. Added to this mix magic amulets, powerful politics, and deadly enemies, and you have an entertaining novel of love, magic and hot sex. So was this a deep novel? No... Did it keep my interest? Yes... Will I read the next one in the series the day it comes out? Yes...

originally posted at http://whippedcream2.blogspot.com/201...I may not be able to pronounce some of their names, but I'll still remember these characters for a long time. Jared--easy name, Tomas--easy name again... but Zongxian, say that again! With such a difficult name, his character had to be explosive, and that he was, along with his other mates. I cannot pick just one because I loved all three of them for their own unique reason. I love Jared’s open heart and willingness to go with the punches. Tomas’s passion is evident from the moment he is introduced. No matter what it is once, his mine is made up he puts everything he has into that task. Zongxian exudes power whether it is physical or mental. Together this trio is definitely a force to be reckoned with. The relationship development was consistent throughout this story, but in the beginning, I didn't feel the passion from the characters the way I would have liked to. It was clear they were mates and wanted each other, I just would like to have felt that extra oomph. Fingers itching to touch one another, sneaking a glance when the other man is not looking, that type of connection. In addition, the sex didn't occur as much as I would have expected from these characters. I expected them to be tearing off each other’s clothes constantly. Then again, if I had villain after villain threatening my family and me, I would probably put sex on the backburner also. The author really incorporates little extra effects in this story to make it stand out. While most of the story is based in the modern world, there is some parallel traveling involved that adds a certain element to the story. Moreover, the paranormal element is explosive! You have dragons, vampires, werewolves, mythical creatures, snake shifters ... the list just keeps going. These unique characters and relationships between them really made this story a standout. Despite this book being part of a series, I felt right at home even though I have not read the previous stories. After meeting the characters, I would love to go back and read the previous stories, but it was not necessary in order to enjoy this story. Because of the great characters, exciting plot and the fact that it can be read alone I recommend Dragon's Bloodmoon and will continue to follow the Deadly Mates series.

Clare C's Review Dragon’s Bloodmoon begins quickly, in the midst of a battle. Hyacinth does a spectacular job of introducing the characters and explaining the situation through the narrative without losing the momentum of the scene. This kind of writing skill draws you in and makes the novel difficult to put down. Hyacinth’s writing style borders on art. She wastes no words while still delivering a riveting story.I’ll confess now that I haven’t read the first three novels in the series, a situation that will soon change. Though this story stands alone, tidbits of well-placed information definitely hint at a deeper, more complex conflict arcing through the series. In this installment, Jared, Zongxian, and Tomas find love. Jared is a young werewolf. Zongxian is a more experienced dragon, and Tomas is the vampire sent to take the amulet Jared guards and kill him afterward. The mating bond he feels for Jared, and later Zongxian, derails those plans, and the trio must fight in order to be together. The complex plot unfolds with dynamite intensity in Hyacinth’s talented hands. The love story at the heart of the novel is sweet and hot. Jared definitely assumes the submissive role, while Zongxian and Tomas end up in the dominant/caretaker roles. The amount of love and respect between the members of this trio only adds to the eroticism of the love scenes. I absolutely loved this story, and I’m going to be reading a lot more of Ms. Hyacinth’s work.5 Tea Cups!

Whew! This series just gets better and better with every new book! I absolutely loved Dragon’s Bloodmoon. One of the best things about this series in my opinion is the variety of shifters. Usually with shifter books the mates are both the same type of shifter but not so with this lovely series from Ms. Hyacinth. You get the whole gamut of shifters here, including snake shifters, and I fully expect there will be a few more surprises in the books to come. The world building is excellent, and incredibly imaginative and I love how the author uses Greek, Chinese and other mythologies to help build her worlds. The emotion filled passion that encompasses the relationships between the three mates is also not to be missed. If you have not had the pleasure of reading a Scarlet Hyacinth book, then I strongly urge you to check her out today, she is one of the very best storytellers around! I actually liked the first half of the book more than the last half. I liked the action and the romantic conflicts. When "everything" was somewhat settled between them romantically, I kinda lost interest. Their relationship made no sense. I don't know why they liked each other. I don't know why they thought they were perfect for each other. Then again, I couldn't connect with either character to actually care so...I didn't even care for the sex. That's how bad this was for me. Only part remotely interesting for me was the stuff directly related to the Spirit or whatever. Even that was poorly done and definitely not enough to carry the story tho.

I really enjoyed this next installment in the Deadly Mates Series. I enjoyed it immensely, much better than the last book concerning the m/m/m relationship. This relationship seemed closer, more connected and I connected with these there better. Each character was very interesting and we were also introduced to some new people and new possibilities popped up. I can't wait for the next one. This one was so good and these seem to just get better. Definitely looking forward to it. Good work Scarlet, keep it up! :)

typical Scarlet Hyacinth serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical Scarlet Hyacinth? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.). out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all serials by UNLESS motivated otherwise by markedly good/bad writing:Scarlet Hyacinthjoyee flynnsunny daylynn hagenstormy glenncarol lynnegabrielle evansi'd apologize for said halfassedness, but i'm not sorry.

What do you get if you put a Dragon, Vampire and a Werewolf together? Apparently, this book!By the 4th book (i.e. this one) I was so invested in this series that I gasped and shook my fist couple of times at my screen. The fight scenes, the revelations and the twists were oh-so-delicious! I loved this series! Not once did I roll my eyes at any of the actions of the MCs. Can't wait to start the Spirit wolves series!
