The third (and so far final) story about Lars and Rael revealed some more detail about the demon world, Rael’s somewhat frightening mother, and had another mystery that needed solving. The little Wishes pills and what they ultimately turned out to be added a level of humor to the proceedings that I really liked.Rael continues to try to get used to living ‘topside’. He desperately wants to please his lover, and one of the ways he thinks he can help gets him into a whole lot of trouble. He is very cute about it and I love the make-up sex that follows.Lars has his hands full in this book. Not only does he have reason to doubt Rael’s fidelity (which he immediately regrets when he finds out the truth), but he also has a mysterious case and a very cranky detective partner on his hands. I have no idea how he deals with all of it on a daily basis. He has my admiration. The trademark humor of this series is back. Just to illustrate, here is one of my favorite quotes:"Actually, Hell's kinda conservative," Rael told him, shrugging. "Yeah?" "Well, honey, you didn't think all the homophobes went to Heaven, did you?"If you like paranormal stories with a humorous twist, like reading about interspecies couples and enjoy a good mystery on the side, you will probably like this short book as much as I did.

2.5 starsMaybe I'm just not in the mood or I'm getting harsher with M/M genre these days, but I found this one lacking of everything I love from the two previous books. The humor, the cuteness, they all seem to be lacking. I don't smile once -- I don't find the mystery as intriguing at all. I don't feel there is enough Lars and Rael's interaction. There is one big life event turnout for Chele (Lars' partner); but she has never been my main reason to read this book.*shrugs*

Clever ending there. Now I have to go straight into the next book. (it's not a cliff hanger, it's just a new plot thread)

Review posted at The Armchair Reader.I have had so much fun reviewing the first two stories of this series. I reviewed them at BER and was a bit sad when this was over the word limit there. So, I waited until I had a blog of my own to review it and I almost didn't want to read it because I love these guys so much -- they're SO much fun -- and I didn't want to read the last story in their adventures.Lars Thornsson, a half-valkyrie detective with the Paranormal Enforcement Agency first met Rael, a very rare and unique male succubus in A Calling for Pleasure. Lars and his partner in the agency, the irascible Chelle Rochelle, were looking for a nasty succubus that sucked the life out of a man and ran across Rael when his charm, sex appeal and hilarious fem personality made Lars fall for him. They came back in their second adventure, A Blast from the Past, both now trying to make a home together while Rael gets used to living topside and dealing with some very hot situations and a reemerging ex lover. Now, in this third and final story, Lars and Rochelle are dealing with a very nasty drug on the streets called Wishes, that grants the users wishes in ways they absolutely don't benefit, already leaving one man dead. When it looks like Rael may know who is cooking up the drug and it is an old friend, his loyalties are split between his lover and not wanting his old friend Shaz to get into trouble -- which of course, is how Rael gets in trouble himself.I love these shorts by Merrow. Rael is such a breath of fresh air. He's so open and honest and genuine but with so much charm. Still, he's a bit devilish, which goes perfectly with Lars, who is sweet and seemingly optimistic and gentle. Rochelle is back again, being funnier than ever. I swear she's my favorite character of all, and even if I might not read it if she got a story all her own, she certainly deserves one! Rochelle makes me laugh so much throughout these stories, here' a bit from this one (she's got a bit of ability herself):"Uh, C?" Lars frowned. "You wouldn't have any, uh, personal experience of handing out that kind of vengeance, would you?"Rochelle flashed him her most insincere smile. "Who, me? You wouldn't catch me, say, telling a cheatin' boyfriend I'd hit him with an impotence curse that'd kick in any time he tried sticking his dick where it didn't belong, then watching him torture himself with good old-fashioned performance anxiety…" She coughed.I really can't recommend these stories enough. There's not much to dissect and talk about, they really are just pure candy to me, the good kind. There is fluff, but then there are stories that go down like sweet mint ice water on a hot day. They don't need critique, you just want to keep them around to enjoy them when you need them. These stories are like that for me. They take the same amount of wit and intelligence that JL Merrow writes in her longer novels but are written purely for fun and laughs. It really is a shame there aren't more of them. But I'm sure I'll read these again anyhow!

**GRammar**Someone is selling drugs able to make all your wishes true... or so it should be. A lot of people have had a bad surprise and one also died. Lars and Rochelle need to find out who is making and selling the drug and stop them. Some of the witnesses said that the one selling the drug is a man dressed like a woman and Rael knows only a demon that loves cross-dressing, his friend Shax. While Lars and his partner try to find out all about the suspect, we see Rael asking his mother to search for Shax. When he is finally able to meet with the other demon and talk to him, the police stops them. Shax runs away and Rael gets arrested, again.Lars isnt happy to see his lover lying to him, but at the same time he understands that Rael cares about his friend and he too starts to believe that the this demon wouldnt be able to kill someone. Later we find out that this is the truth and that the real killer had only used the drug to make the police believe that Shax was the one they were searching for. There was a scene that made me smile and was the one where Shax uses the drug on Rochelle. He doesnt want to relly hurt her, he wants to scare the police and be able to run away, but when the other detectives working with Lars and Rochelle come into the room, he gets scared and without knowing pushes the drung a bit too far in Rochelle's mouth and she swallows. Lars tells her to not wish for anything, but in doing so, he makes her think about a wish and boom she is now pregnant with Shax's baby.Since the first moment Rochelle saw Shax, also if in women clothes, she was attracted to him, and now that she is pregnant with his baby, she asks Rael if Shax is like him, but the other demon replies that his friend was always attracted only by women, and she seems really happy. I see a future for them... LOLThe mystery is easily resolved and things happen too fast, but this is to be expected since the book is really short. I really like Lars and Rael as a couple, and I can understand that Lars wasnt so sure about their relationship in this book, since Rael is still an incubus, but the sweet demon is loyal and never cheats on him, he always thinks first about Lars and then about himself. In the end Lars knows that he was an idiot to think that his demon had cheated on him.

A Wish Too FarBy J. L. MerrowWe are back with the group from the Paranormal Enforcement Agency, Lars and Rael are still keeping it hot and heavy and Rochelle is still picking on Lars about his illegal little succubus. We know from the previous books in this series that Rael loves to cook; now he has a national chef with a show that wants to do an episode that showcases him and his pastries. The producer leaves Rael with a slip a paper with his number on it that only says ‘call me.’ Now, with Rael’s lover being a cop, you know that somewhere down the line this is going to cause problems… but in the cutest way possible.Lars Thornsson and Rochelle are tracking a drug dealer, a demon by the type of drug. It is a drug that is supposed to grant your greatest wish, but one man has ended up dead from the drug, maybe. Lars mentions to Rael that they are looking for a badly dressed cross dressing demon that is responsible for this drug, well, Rael has connections in Hell, and since there are only a few cross dressers down there he thinks he knows who they may be looking for, but he has to find him first because this doesn’t sound like his old friend. With the human’s death, the heat on this case gets turned up from the higher ups, and Lars and Rochelle get saddled with two of the worse cops they can possibly ended up saddled with. Trying to be helpful, Rael ends up under arrest by these two, but is quickly gotten out of jail by their friendly lawyer, but is able to provide Lars and Rochelle the break they need to take down their dealer. This book was a blast trying to put all the pieces together as they are doweled out one piece a time. You have a bad guy that goes by three names, he has his reasons for doing what he does, Lars gets to meet Rael’s mother – kind of – and yes, that piece of paper comes into play when Lars goes looking for the lover that is always home to meet him when he gets home… except for one night. Again, like all these books the promise a short fun read, and Ms. Merrow delivers with spades. 5 start rating.

Detective Lars Thornsson and his job mate Rochelle have a messy case: somebody is selling a new drug which grants wishes to the people who take it… albeit in a very twisted way. Having to work with two bullish and incompetent colleagues is bad, but things get worse when Rael, Lars’ demon lover, follows his instincts and tries to help… Only to get arrested by dumb and dumber. The icing on this absurd cake is Rochelle’s very expected and magical pregnancy…Another instalment of this funny series: I love this couple, what with Lars so responsible and righteous and Rael sexy and spontaneous. They make an extraordinary pair, and in this instalment their relationship gets stronger, though Lars has to deal with jealousy and insecurity: after all, his demon lover may need more than what Lars is able to provide. There is a funny mystery, cross-dressing and new characters and old ones who come back. We even get to meet Rael’s mom: a sassy demon with a lot of personality. Hilarious.
