My MFA program assigned this as "additional reading" for my Adaptation class, and I enjoyed it more than I expected to (having not seen the movie or the play). It's a spy novel, and one of the first that separated the 20th century spy novel from the mysteries of the 19th century. The disguise element and Hannay's ability to move fluidly through the English class system provide an intriguing meditation on identity and self. The plot moves fast enough to make this a fun summer read.
